Hi, I'm from Germany and I'm looking for a slightly used Vaio...

As I have never dealt with Sony before - so far I'm a TP user - I'd like to know if I need a receipt or s.th. in case my machine breaks in order to get sony warranty support --- or is a still valid serial sufficient (like with my TP)?

    Thanks a lot!

if you by a used unit i believe that the warrenty is void, in other words you can make a warrenty claim, i am not sure so i hope someone else corrects me if i am wrong atleast that's how it works with most in store warrenties.

all depends on how 'old' of a computer you are getting

but do I need to have a receipt? I'm aksing because usually if I get a machine of Ebay I won't get a receipt so question is whether I can still get sony support - of course given, that the machine is still in warranty (meaning not too old).

i believe all sonys have a standard 1 year warrenty, so if the origonal date of purchase is over a year it really does not matter if you get a repiept or not, if there is still a hope of getting some warrenty then it would be a good idead to at least get a bill of sale, but i would try to get a copy of the origonal reciept. to prove to sony(if you need to make a warrenty claim) that it should still be covered.

check the sony website and see if it has anything on it's warrenties

other wise try and get as much documentation on the computer as you can

sony is good quality you should not have any warrenty claims anyway, but better be safe than sorry

if in case of a warrenty claim you will need to be able to prove to sony that it is still in warrenty. so a reciept would be a good idea if possible.
