As I am about to send my laptop for repair, wanted to see what people's experience has been with Sony's repair store in San Diego for its US customers.

I sent my TZ for service last week and got it back in 5 business days. Not only they replaced the defective internal part (burned webcam), they also install a new housing including the palm rest.
Now the bad news is that they probably forgot to connect or install wireless / LAN network cards when assemble everything back together. coz now I can't connect to internet except my sprint EVDO.
got to call them tomorrow -
Hello
For me it just went fine I send my computer because it's not powering on and it return to me after 7 days they replace my MBX and it just like brand new from the factory they also clean my fan. -
Well, still waiting on my Vaio Z to come back. They received it last friday. Repair website has had no update since then. Hate waiting, that's why I bought the Z at sony style retail store in first place!
Update: Got my Z. I sent it with three problems:
1) Due to screen overheating one time, I thought the left edge of the LCD screen appeared slightly dimmer than the right.
2) Express PC Card cover didn't close properly
3) Bezel was bit loose at some points
Solution:
#1) They weren't able to detect any dimness on the LCD. I guess the guy didn't look hard enough. But I expected this. As it is not obviously dim unless you stare at it. However, they cleaned it nicely such as it looks like its brand new. They also performed some 24 hour test to see if there were any problems/hardware. Couldn't find any. I didnt' expect them to.
#2) They replaced the bottom housing, hoping to fix problem #2. However, the new housing also had the same problem. They told me to send the laptop back in a month when they will get a new shipment of parts from Japan.
#3) They replaced the Bezel. The new bezel is much better. However, the bottom left and right edge on the outside still seems looser than the top right and left outside edge of the bezel. Guess I will have to live with this.
And when they shipped it back, they included a light blue VAIO cloth that looks a lot like lens cleaning cloths. Its not big enough to be used as a screen protecter however. I shipped it Wednesday Oct 15th, and got it back Monday Oct 27th. I live in Atlanta.
Overall, quite satisfied as repairs centers go. -
bump for the thread.
-
this should be a sticky.

They are a good service center I have ever seen. I had them replaced T250P LCD with some dirts inside, failed DVD drive; FE550G with defective motherboard; FE790P with defective keyboard. I usually get them back within a week.

Nice to hear good stories about the Sony Repair Center in San Diego.
-
I'm also about to send my laptop in
I'm glad to hear that you all had good experience with the repair center.. -
For people who have sent their laptops into sony before.. Did they wipe your hard drive??
-
No they did not
-
That's good to know..
But I backed up all my data.. just in case... -
Yeah, the support guy said I should back up my data just in case, and I think the form had a line that said I wouldn't hold Sony support responsible for any data lost - but my hard drive was basically untouched when it came back.
-
Can anybody please tell me exactly where the repair shop is in san diego? I want to drive there. Thanks.
