    Hello all,
Have pretty much decided on buying the TXN(17or19).

For those fellow road warriors out there that already have any of the TX series has it met or exceded your expectations or are you unhappy with your purchase?

Thanks in advance for the comments ;)

I just bought a TX790P for just $460, had it for less than an hour and loving it, considering I was spoiled by the similar ultraportable Fujitsu Lifebook P5020D.

Only problem is that the laptop has a vertical white band down the middle of the screen but for $460, who am I to complain!? :D

Your buying the newer model with the fingerprint reader and Core Solo. But I'm loving the TX so far.

I have to get this vertical band fixed though, need to get some cash to fix it.

$460 for a TX 700 series, white band or not what a deal.

Had a similar problem with my Inspirion 8100 took it apart and reseated the ribbon that functions as the monitor cable and the problem went away. Dont know how easy sony's are to take apart though?

Good luck and great find :)

Yeah, I really want to get that issue solved but I'm deathly afraid of opening it up since I somehow killed my Lifebook P5020D just by removing the hard drive. :(
I must have bad luck tinkering with electronics.

Let me just say that I thought the screen on my Compaq V3019 was bright, the Vaio TX BLOWS IT AWAY!! The screen on it is magnificently bright and crisp, so far, this is the BEST screen I have ever seen in my life!

And beleive it or not, the screen is a lot sturdier than it looks, its quite durable, I'm not worried about breaking the thin screen in normal usage anymore.

Yeah, I still can't beleive I got this for only $460, loss for the seller I guess, got it from Craigslist BTW. ;)

But I really do want to fix this white thick line running down the screen, I also am guessing its the cables behind the LCD. You really think I can fix it myself?

This is a really sweet ultraportable, ever since I had the P5020D over two years ago, I always wanted ultraportables but could never afford them, having used "disgusting" 15.4 and 14.1" notebooks. Lady luck was shining when I scored this tX790 for only $460, there is a god! :D
Now to fix the screen and I'm dumping my Compaq 14.1" monstrosity. :)

Well, I am very hands on Marine Engineer with a decent background in electronics so I feel pretty comfortable tearing into just about anything. If you have a similiar background and there is no warranty I would go for it. If you are not so technically minded I would take it into a shop.

Note:I would get some recomendations first and find a shop that specializes in notebooks. I have had to "fix" several friends laptops after the local [ chop shops took their money and didn't fix the problem. Good luck :)

Sorry, I'm just an ignorant young college student right now.
I really hope to become much more computer saavy and be easily able to tear into them and check em out. As it stands right now, I couldn't take apart and put a laptop back together again to save my life! But I hate taking computers to a shop, ehh.

Sorry I hijacked this topic.
