I have a Z11 as my daily beater Z. I keep a Z13 in the closet for special occassions.
-
Hmm... I have 3 contemporary laptops, two elderly half live ones, a pair of netbooks, an iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone. But there can only be one Z.
-
1 for me. it's an expensive machine and i don't have enough money to have a spare one.
-
Last 3 laptops:
Z11 (current)
SZ680
S170
ie. last 3 generations of Sony's 13" premium business laptop. -
No offense travfar, but this thread is one of the dumbest thread's I've ever seen.
-
+1 lol
-
My dad has a 2009 Z from his work, and I have a Z12 for myself.
-
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
Whoever has those 3+ Vaio Z's I envy you!
-
OK, I have 2, recently took delivery of a Z13 to "replace" my 2 year old VGN-Z11. But not sure I am gonna sell the old one, always good to have a backup....
-
since I con work on only 1 computer at a time and just need 1 notebook at a time (I got only 2 hands and can’t be faster than a computer) I have only 1 Z at a time I sell my notebook before I buy one. But I have a desktop for gaming.
-
This thread reminds me of this: "I have 3, PS3's".
-
None but considering in getting one perhaps 4xmas
-
That's probably travfar in that video
-
Nah... He's too much of a stud. It's flattering that you're so infatuated with me mfpreach. I don't butter my bread on that side though. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
-
LOL!!! Man you just made my day !!!!!
-
I just got my very first Z (VPC-Z12). My previous one was a Dell XPS M1330, which was more expensive than my Z (Got the Z when it was on sale in Canada. I was one of the lucky ones who got the order filled.)
-
At least PS3s cost like £230. Z series costs like 10 times as much. So yeah, this thread feels like 99.99% of the human race doesn't belong here. Including me and all zero of my Z series notebooks.
edit: is there a way to add '0' to the poll? -
Where's the point in upgrading from a Z11 to a Z13? Is there any improvement you can really see?
btw: the ps3-video is godlike
-
He upgraded from a VGN Z to the latest generation Z13. Significant differences there.
-
Not much. The CPU is a little different. Higher normal clock but lower burst speed. The mini-sata instead of proprietary for the SSD.
Due to the Microsoft blowout though, it was kind of an easy decision. You could have gotten a Z13 for $824-$1200 and then sold your old Z11 to cover the cost and gotten a free upgrade or even get paid a few hundred dollars to do it. Getting a new battery and warranty are fringe benefits. -
What Microsoft blowout?
In any case, I have decided that I will get a Z next week instead of compromising what I need. The Z has it all, great screen (long overseas flights so I watch movies) and lightweight for frequent travel.
Question: What are your thoughts on SONY Service & Tech support after sale?
many thanks -
Search for $824 and Microsoft, there's a thread for it.
Sony support after sale? In North America? What support? If you want decent Sony support, you need to go to Japan or China then they'll roll out the red carpet. Sadly, it seems every country has their own service organization. -
As I have lived in Japan for awhile, I understand. In any case, is the support level here for Sony expensive laptops a deal breaker?

Hilarious. People speak that way about their cars
myone Z12 is enough for me. Don't need a second Z let a lone a second computer. -
So when you install a new cool app on your Z11, start using and relying on it... Then one day you bust out the Z13, and it doesn't have your new app, all its settings and files. What do you do?
-
His Z's are automatically synced via specialized software that he wrote and runs it on a 256 core cluster of blade servers that he got on ebay for $.07 after 14 coupon codes, bong cash-back, and some shady price matching demands.
Sigh. -
You can synchronize two machines. Most people are familiar with syncing up data. What most people aren't familiar with is syncing up apps. It is possible to install an app on one computer and then transfer it to another computer without "reinstalling" it. Thus you can make two computers mirrored images of one another. It's especially trivial when the two machines are pratically identical as in the case of a Z11 and a Z13. Symantec gives away/sells, depending on personal or commerical use, a program that makes it easy to move apps amongst various machines. The settings and files for that app will either be stored in your local user storage, moved with a user data sync, or in the registry which will be moved with the app migration.

He's the most interesting man in the world. He doesn't normally do distributed computing but when he does...
-
Depends, does a 350Z or Z1000 count?
-
I admit it. I'm not proud. Over the last couple of days, I just kept taking $300 from Expedia. They'd give it to me and I would say "Thank you sir, may I have another?" Then they gave it to me again and again and again and again. I know many are too proud to take free money and insist on paying full price for everything. There were many who said they can afford to pay their own way, thank you very much. Beups, I know you think anyone who doesn't pay full price is suffering from a group delusion since it's "unreasonable" to expect discounts. You know what they say, "A fool and his money are soon separated." I'll swallow my pride and take a free flight or take advantage of the frequent half price laptops deals. The next time you are in doubt, just remember, "That's just pride fraking with you."
-
^i'm just messing with you. Anyhow, you aren't saving anything by buying multiple cheap z's, even if you get a great deal. That is spending money, not saving. But if you resold them....
Next time you find expedia giving money away, drop us a line here. I promise we won't complain
-
I like how zero isn't even an option in this man's mind. ;D
-
My Z117 satisfies all my needs. I had an old Z a while back and sold it after I got the new Z.
-
Two Z11's. Sold my older previous generation Z last week as I got the new 13" MBA.
-
I had a 2006 SZ and now have Z112. Also own a precision M4500 and about 10 I've owned/sold since then.
The M4500 is my desktop replacement when I go somewhere where I know I'm visiting relatives for a few days (where it gets planted at a desk), the Z goes with me everywhere else and a beast desktop when I'm at home.
The craftsmanship of the current Z line has come A LONG way. -
Just got my first Z a couple of days ago (see sig!) and plan on sticking with this series for a long time
!
-
Four in all. Some people I work with needed everyday portables, so I gave them my Z11's and got an equal number of Z13's recently, as I tend to scatter my notebooks around the places I work. Plus, the staff member who had my other Z11 quit - so she handed in her machine.
The hurried re-purchase of the Z's has turned out to be a bit of a mistake though - as I'm moving out of yet another office, and to be honest I'm using the Lenovo X201 Tablets far more often despite the much higher weight to drag along. I might sell them, or stick them in storage for me to use in the future.
How many Z's do you have?
