I know that the regular battery gives about 4 hours

what about the high capacity one? does anybody have it? and if so, how many hours do you get on average?

    thanks!

And another question similar to this one, what about differences in sizes/weights between usual and high-capacity batteries?

You can do a search here, there are many posts about these two questions. some with pictures. Overall the ext battery is about 50% heavier by guestimating. Battery life for me is abour 4-5 hrs doing nothing important or taxing with ext battery. and about 2 hrs max doing something like gaming.

I get around 6-6.5 hours with the extended battery in stamina mode with bluetooth turned off, the display at half brightness and web surfing / Microsoft Word usage.

Here are a few simple tips for getting the most from your VAIO SZ's battery.

[1] Use the integrated Intel 950 graphics, its there for a reason [to conserve battery power!]. You will find that the integrated chip is just fine for office apps, web surfing, and playing music or DVDs.

[2] Let your battery find itself; get to know who it is - on the inside. You need to charge and discharge your battery several times before you can even think of judging real-world battery life

[3] You paid a significant premium for Sony's LED X-Brite screen technology so use it. In my experience the Sony X-Brite LED screen is, when set to about half-maximum, still brighter than most other screens set to 3/4 or full.

[4] Windows 'Device Manager' is your friend. Learn it, know it, use it. How many of us really use the 1394 port when on battery? What about the modem and network ports? Do you really need the WiFi and/or Bluetooth radios on when flying? What about the PCMCIA and ExpressCard slots? Right – turn them off! You will find that disabling seldom used features in Device Manager will significantly extend battery life and they are easy to turn back on when needed.

Follow these simple steps and I am confident that you will find as I have found that the standard battery is good for a solid 4 hours with Wi-Fi on [and as much as to 4-1/2 hours with the radios off] and as much as 7 hours on the extended battery. Come on; 4+ hours from a 3.7 pound notebook with a 13.3" screen, that's not bad at all.

When one considers that the extended battery delivers as much as 7 hours while only adding an inch or so to the depth and about a third of a pound to the total weight [from 3.7 to 4 pounds] I think it is fair to say that the SZ is all-in-all a pretty remarkable premium notebook [by no means perfect] though at an admittedly premium price.

    Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager

The VAIO power manager is good but Windows Device Manager lets you turn more things off.

When on the ground I disable Firewire/Camera/PCMCIA/ExpressCard/Finger Print Scanner/Modem/Network Port.

When in the air I also disable the WiFi radio [I keep the bluetooth on to run my Bluetooth wireless mouse.
