I can't seem to find it listed anywhere on the Sony site. How many megapixels is it?

    0.3, i.e. VGA (640x480)

Depends on the model! There is no standard resolution!!

My S comes with 0,3 MP, but another S submodel has 1 MP. It really depends!

VGA is more than enough as the web-cam is streaming live video at 640x480 (which is a decent sized video to be streaming in the first place).

1MP is around (slightly less than) double the resolution that VGA offers. So streaming videos from such a web-cam, especially with video calling and whatnot, is more likely to be laggier (the streaming files are larger).

So I guess it's a win-win decision by Sony; cheaper costs and better streaming performance. Most other manufacturers are sticking in 1.3MP cameras, and I've even heard of 2MP webcams...

You can stream 640x480 resolution video with a 2MP cam, i think they just go for the lower-res cam because its cheaper and not a selling-argument.
A good webcam is something nice if you often use it. Where I work we have that 9000-something 2MP Logitech cams with Zeiss lens.
It is pretty nice if you have to use it often, on the other hand I think the quality depends mainly on the lens not on the MP the cam can provide, so 2MP with a crappy lens wont really help you.

Considering how flat the screen is, there is no way to put a high quality lens there with current technology. Which is why these things are basically pinhole cameras with a minimal corrective layer.

Which is why even cheap clip-on webcams tend to have far better image quality than those built-in on slim laptops -- they have room for lenses.
