after hearing about all the false claims the sony website made, I was wondering whether anyone has actually weighed their sony sz laptops properly. This is one of the deal breakers to me. I've still not bought one yet, but am getting more and more discouraged!

On the website it claims 1.69kg for premium models and 1.85kg for non-prems. This is very very light.

Has anyone actually weight their sz with standard battery on some accurate weighing scales to confirm this?

I know you americans work with pounds, but i don't mind. Convert to kgs if you can though :p

    Cheers

Yes, I have a digital scale at home that I used to weigh my SZ120...

That is the standard non-carbon fibre model, with the standard 6-cell battery.

The weight came out to just over 4 pounds, or 1.81 kg.

The thing about the SZ is that it's heavy in the back, near the battery.

When people pick it up, they usually pick it up from the front, and therefore it FEELS heavier, because of the uneven distribution.

However, if it you pick it up from the back, it feel as light as it should, i.e. 4.1 pounds.

But what about the U.S. "Black Carbon" carbon fiber models (e.g. sz160)? Are they as light as advertised? The U.S. Sony site says the premium SZ's are "3.7 lbs. with standard battery (weight is approximate and may vary)". But since some claim the lids are not made of true carbon fiber, perhaps they weigh more?

Yes, they are 3.7 pounds. Picked it up in the SOnyStyle store and it's the same weight as my SZ90.

Or 1.68kg. I agree with canonyau, it's comforting to know at least one spec is on target.
