I know its aluminium, but how strong is the palmrest? Is there good support underneath?

Would resting elbows + had on the palmrest likely cause any damage to teh chassis?

Its made for ur hands to rest tehre, so at least that should be fine. Resting ur elbows is also ok, just make sure u dont actually put ur bodyweight on ur elbows and support all that weight, but just having them there is fine.

if i put my elbow + head on (like rest my head on my elbows when bored) is there nay chance of the support underneath failing?

Most likely not, notebooks are supposed to be built to endure traveling and the such, just use ur judgement when puttin pressure there. If u see the palmrest bending in too much, or hear cracking sounds then back off.

I don't think it's good for your eyes to stare so closely at such a brightly-lit and small screen.

    Hi er12345,

    This is a weird question...

May I know why are you asking this question?
And have you used any other notebook where you have put it under such pressure?

Hey just a quick Q...how much flex is there supposed to be in the right corner of the palmrest/keyboard. When i press down with any strenght the palmrest/keyboard/plastic edge buckles much mroe than teh corresponding left side. Is that supposed to happen or have i stuffed something already :p?

My right side right below the keyboard flexes a fair amount as well. I'm assuming the left side doesn't flex because that's where the hard drive is located(as opposed to the flimsy optical drive on the right side.

The DVD drive and the keyboard would be stuff I would complain about for design...

Have you guys noticed that keys can slide around?
Also, the DVD drive is just funny...trying to open it by pressing the button requires you to actually look at it from the side or you'd have no idea where the button is.

if you search the forum you will find that sony's are not built solidly particularly the SZ. mine has loose bits of plastic where you described and other places also. i've already sent it to sony once and it's still pretty loose

You guys sure do a lot of pushing and prodding. :p

I'm trying to picture elbows resting on the palmrests of something as small as an SZ. Could anyone post a pic of themselves or someone else doing this, just for entertainments sake? lol Maybe I just need the visual to understand.
