I would like to check some settings in the BIOS on my Vaio S13 with Windows 8 but have no idea how to enter the BIOS on boot. I've tried F1,F2,F12 and nothing...

Shut down your S13 completely, then press the "Assist" button to power up and access the "boot options".

It's F2, or at least that's what it is on my S13. You have to keep mashing the button as it boots because you only have a split second before Windows kicks in.

I helped a friend set up an S15 last year and I seem to recall needing to use an external keyboard for accessing the bios.

Don't remember what key got me in. Yeah, it was an odd way to have top access it. I assumed Sony did it to prevent people from getting in there accidentally or something.

I have the same model and I pressed the "assist" button with the machine completely powered off. It takes you to a UEFI style screen where you can choose from a number of boot options.
