Installing WIDCOMM Bluetooth Stack v5.1.0.1100 on 32-Bit XP/Vista for Sony VAIO SZ:
    1. Make sure the wireless switch is on and the Bluetooth LED is lit.
    2. Uninstall the existing Bluetooth stack and rename the bth.inf file located in %windir%\inf to bth.inf.bak. If you're using the Microsoft Bluetooth stack, uninstall any Bluetooth related devices manually in the Device Manager (start->run->devmgmt.msc). Restart Windows and during the startup it should detect an unknown device (UGX). Do not try to find or install the driver now.
    3. Download the WIDCOMM stack, extract all the files to another location, and run the HTML file to watch the video of the remaining installation process.
NOTE: Use an account that has Administrator privileges and disable UAC if you're on Vista.

    How to Uninstall:
    1. Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs (or Programs in Vista) and Uninstall the WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack.
    2. Watch this video to complete the uninstallation.

If you have a Bluetooth hardware ID different from what's shown in the video, you'll have to change the string that I had searched for in Notepad to what's shown in your hardware ID device properties.

For instance, the hardware ID for the SZ4 Bluetooth is:
    USB\Vid_044e&Pid_300d&Rev_1915
    USB\Vid_044e&Pid_300d

SZ4 owners would simply need to change any instance of the USB\Vid_044e&Pid_300c string to USB\Vid_044e&Pid_300d in the btwusb.inf file.

Also, when you delete the registry key during the uninstallation, make sure it matches your Bluetooth hardware ID. I don't think I had made that clear.

Thank for your updated information. I would like to know how it is better than the last version for XP?

The one that was posted a few months ago is version 5.0, this is v5.1 and the latest working version for CSR-based devices, such as the one inside the SZ. As far as the list of improvements go, there are many but the major ones are explained in this post.

    Hi,
I installed this on my SZ450 but have one problem. When I do a reboot, the bluetooth device is not recognized--I have to stop and start bluetooth with the wireless switch for it to work. However, when I start the laptop from a shutdown, the bluetooth radio is found and everything works as expected. Does anyone have the same problem? Any thoughts on what may be causing this? Thanks.

    i have 2 questions
    1) whats the advantages of the widcomm stack?
    2) i dont think anything is install on my machine. the bluetooth light is on but in device manager there is a yellow marker next to an "other device" called UGX. I thought the microsoft software should kick in automatically and offer to install itself but it wont bc i think it cant figure out that this is a bluetooth device. is that right?
