Hi,
I recently upgraded my PCG-K86P to a total of 700 odd megs of ram and a 100 gig, 7000 odd rpm hard-drive looking for a performance increase. But at the same time after reading other peoples experiences I also want to try to get a clean install of xp-pro so I can start from scratch.
I have trawled both google and these forums for something a little more model specific but basically what I need to know is if I have to purchase another version of xp or if there is a way to somehow "semi-recover" from my sony disc.

Clean installation is the best way, As far as I know, after reinstallation, the Fn Fuction button doesn't work when you try to set your LCD screen brightness and such, so make sure your screen is on max first.
I just reinstalled my FE this morning, everything work out fine, the only thing that bugs me is Sony has so much junk software that is kinda annoying. I've found some info about recover the FN button but i forgot where it was, could you show me some links? From what i remember is we need the Recover CD and copy some files in that CD to the hdd.
Another is you need to read on microsoft.com or look on Dummy's guide to Enable Multicore Processing for Duo Core Processors and get the max of your CPU performance.
How to approach a clean xp-pro install on a PCG-K86P?
