I am interested in buying a Vaio Z in the UK (I need a 13" laptop with bluray - ROM would be fine but the only one I can find is the Vaio Z). The price on the sonystyle website seems outrageous. I have never bought a Sony before - is there a better route to get a customised Vaio Z or are there discount vouchers/sales/promotions I should use/wait for?

Your advice on this (or if you have any other suggestions for a 13" laptop available in the UK with bluray) would be appreciated!

    Thanks

    Brian

In the UK, you can only buy Z with bluray by customizing it yourself. Therefore your only option is to buy direct from sonystyle.

    Sorry about the bad news.

You could though, if you fancy it buy the preconfigured models much cheaper elsewhere and fit a bluray drive yourself (voiding warranty of course) or use an external one. Either way it would be much cheaper than buying customized one

Thanks for your reply. Is there a bluray ROM (I don't need the ability to write anyway) available which fits into the z? If so, that would be ideal (if it's not too complicated to fit!)

    Thanks again

To be honest I don't know much about the Z but I assume it uses a standard drive slot enabling you to use any laptop drive. However, it most probably involves taking your Z completely apart to access it.

Scan sell a notebook bluray reader for £115 but its no where near as cheap as the desktop ones which cost £55 LINK

My suggestion would be to buy an external bluray reader than get into the hassle of changing the internal drive of the Z (unless of course your comfortable with opening it)

This isn't the most portable of solutions but i assume you wish to connect your z to your tv to watch bluray movies? (only a guess since you don't require a bluray writer)

It's not true - you can buy Vaio VGN-Z21ZN/X and 007 Edition with blu-ray drive and 128GB SSD as ready made models.

Sorry didn't realise the VGN-Z21ZN/X model existed

but the 007 model is only available directly from sonystyle/sony centres at a staggering £2929

Atleast the VGN-Z21ZN/X model you mentioned is available elsewhere for ~ £2700 (still not cheap though)
