The easy way is to boot from Windows 7 DVD, delete all the existing partitions, and then install to unpartitioned space and just let windows do its thing. It will create two fresh partitions on the hard drive - a small approx 100MB partition where it will keep the boot files, and the rest will become your C drive.

You can use Hiren Boot CD. Basically, you need to boot from something other than the drive which you want to mess with.

There are other ways of doing this, but now that you've deleted the recovery partition, the only reason for not doing a clean sweep and deleting all existing partitions is gone. Just hope that you have tried your recovery discs and they actually work.

You can use EASEUS Partition Manager. It's got a free version and a Windows GUI. Once you've queued your actions, the system reboots and does the work.

You MUST make a backup/system image before doing something like this. You never know what can go wrong, since you should also have a Windows recovery partition between your old Sony partiion and C:

You'll want to delete D:. move Windows recovery all the way to the left and then expand C: to fill up the new space in between.

Please provide a screenshot of how EASEUS looks w/ your partition setup.

I'll let you know what I think you can do then.

I have always had trouble with combining/merging/extending partitions to include space that is before the system partition. I'm very interested in finding out if it is possible.

There's the system reserved partition (100MB) in between. That is the partition that holds the boot files.

    You have two options.

    1. Keep things the way they are. A second partition can be very useful, especially if you don't have an external drive to hand.

    2. Do what I suggested in the first place. Boot from some other bootable device (not this physical hard drive), delete all the partitions, then install Windows 7 to the unallocated space.

Can I install iTunes on the D drive or should I keep it on the C drive?

You should be able to (in this order):

    1 - Delete D:\
2 - Move/resize the 100MB Recovery partition. Start by extending it to the left, then shrink it down from the right
3 - Extend C:\ to the left to take up the empty space.

Please make a system image backup before doing this. What will happen is that EASEUS will queue the project and request a reboot. Upon the reboot, it will perform the actions and be able to move all of the partitions. Another reboot, a success message, and everything should be fine.

If not fine, then restore from the system image you created.
