    How to disable Brightness (Auto) on Vaio Z12?

    I've recently purchased myself a Sony Viao Z, but now I've noticed it's pretty dark... Anyone know how to fix that? Please give a detailed answer on how I can. I don't know how to get into bios if I need to do that. I tried pressing Delete button on the keyboard during bootup but that's not the right key, it seems.

    I hit the same problem last night. In VAIO Control Center application, there's display settings to enable auto brightness.

    I am experiencing this as well! this definitely looks dimmer than my old Z540. I can confirm that auto brightness is turned on, and the brightness is all the way up. Fiddled with settings, even restarted. Anyone else experiencing this?

    You guys want to DISABLE Auto Brightness. Do that by going to Vaio Control Center in Control Panel and then selecting the Display section. Select Automatic Brightness Settings and untick the thing. Then crank up your brightness using the function keys. You should see a difference. There is also a thread out there you might search for that talks about a potential way of going even beyond the standard maximum brightness. If I find it I'll add the link here.

    Disabling the auto brightness helps considerably. However, with the full HD screen (1920x1080) the brightness is still not very bright (compared to the 1600x900 screen) even after you disable. So just a heads up in case you have the FHD screen.

    glad i didn't get the Full HD display.. this 1600x900 is perfect! (after setting DPI to 100% from the 125% default setting)

    it did it with my vaio which has a full hd 1080p 16.4 screen , it effected thanks...
    i guess i'll use like this...
    in my opinion auto brightness is only effecting the life of your battery right?

    The auto brightness is just intended to make sure you're operating at "optimum" brightness based on the ambient light. If you're in a very brightly lit room, the screen gets brighter so you can see it. If you're in the dark, the screen will dim because you don't need as much light. It's more for your visual experience than battery I think.

    Personally I like to be in charge of how much brightness I need, so auto brightness isn't much use to me.
