I want to switch the resolution of my Vaio FW with a 1920x1080 screen to a lower one namely 1600x900.

I remember the first model of FW11 had this as native resolution. However, the drivers for the follow models do not contain this resolution in the list.

Is there a way to enable/add it somehow to the driver?

    The videocard is ATI 4650.

P.S. I know that the picture will not be as crisp as with the native resolution. That's not the issue here.

Load the updated drivers form this link.
    Graphics Drivers & Software
Select thru the options menus -model of card etc.
Unzip the package that downloads - remember where it unpacks to - default is C:ATI
    unistall the old version
    Go to control panel
Update the driver and browse to new unpacked driver.
Let it load - you'll have several options for screen resolution, altho may have your desired 1600x900. (not available with my 3650m card)

Open your CCC, go to Information Center
see the "2D Driver File Path"
then navigate to that folder in regedit
    in my case, its HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000
Then on the right side, find "DALNonStandardModesBCD1"
double click it, then enter this number on lowest line
    16 00 09 00 00 00 00 60
    then click OK, then restart
Then try again to adjust your resolution...

Right click on desktop, click on personalize (below), then click on display settings (also below) and you can chose any resolution you want.

What is CCC? I looked in all the Vaio and vid settings, and don't see anything with an information center.

    Thanks!

Mine doesn't have the "manage custom resolutions" choice. I tried monkeying around with the "change flat panel scaling" options with lower non 16x9 res, but nothing looked very good.

Not a big deal. Thanks for the effort!
