I should also mention (see above post) that the system came with Fresh Start.

stop sharing the screens, dual screens setups will give the lowest common res possible, you either use the FHD of the tv or the 720p for both

That sounds helpful, im just not sure exactly what it means? am i using dual screens? by dual-screens, do u mean that i can see the screen both on my laptop and my television? and if thats the fix, how do i stop using double screens! ALSO (and thank you, btw!) what does FHD stand for?

Do you have the PTV1000 (black front) or PTV2000 (blue front)? The PTV2000 is the 1080p version.

Yes you are using dual-screens (or " Duplicate") which you can see on both the TV and laptop. This means if you can only get 1600x900 on the laptop screen, you can only get 1600x900 on the TV. You can't have two different resolutions... unless you hold FN and press F7 to switch the mode to " Projector Only" so it only shows on the TV. Then you can use 1080p.

But how come my resolution on my laptop is high UNTIL i connect, and then the laptop screen drops to a much lower resolution once it connects to the TV? and the options for higher resolution (eg., 1080p) are shaded out in the Vaio Control Center! it seems strange?

Because your TV doesn't support 1600x900 so both the laptop and TV drop to the HIGHEST COMMON RESOLUTION, meaning if both your laptop and TV support these resolutions for example:

    • 640x480
    • 800x600
    • 1024x786

When you connect to the TV, the resolution will drop to 1024x786 because it's the high comment resolution between them.

As for not being able to select 1080p, do you have JUST the TV displaying images from your laptop, or are you still on duplicate? You can't select 1080p to duplicate when the SA only supports 900p.

Theres an option in the Sony Management tool thing that says "HDMI Output", and everything but 720p is shaded out, and this is the case even when im not connected to my TV.

Because you can't select a 1080p resolution on a 900p laptop screen. You have to have ONLY THE TV AS YOUR MONITOR, your laptop screen should be black.

To get 1080P you have to be connected to the TV, and in the "projector only" mode, meaning the laptop display is off and the only the TV is displaying. You should be able to switch to 1080P then.

1080p is not supported by the factory installed drivers. You require the latest intel HD drivers, netgear firmware update and latest intel proset drivers. However, these have not been released by sony as yet. (there's a discussion thread about this on sony's own website, but they haven't given an ETA as yet)

you could install the drivers directly from intel's website, but then they are 'generic' and will disable you'r ati card, event manager, vaio smart network, etc. (and its not guaranteed that after all that, the 1080p will still work).

so no option but just wait for sony to release the updated drivers.
