When I turn on sz160, my ODD makes beep sound several times. I need to get rid of those sounds so I can turn my laptop on in a library.

    Any suggestion??

During bootup press F2 to get into the BIOS. Once there find the "Speaker" menu item and select "0". This will eliminate that noise.

I'm not talking about that vaio anime noise. I'm talking about noise from the ODD(CD-Rom).

Sorry... When I read the title and it said "ODD Sound", I misunderstood you to be asking about a "weird/odd" sound...

Good question as it is an annoying sound for me too...

    Anyone have any ideas?

hmm, try taking the CDROM out of your boot order in BIOS. I'm guessing it's trying to boot from the CD. Also, you might try leaving a cd out of the drive, or just hibernating it.

I'll play with it tomorrow and see what I can find.

EDIT: Or try putting a CD in. Mine made very little noise, and even less with a CD in than out. THe sound you are describing is the CD mechanism seeking a boot sector, I suspect. I tried it with CD out and in and neither produced much noise but there was a very light cd seek sound with no cd in.

Does the sound occur before or after the XP loading splash appears? If it's before, then it's looking to boot from CD. You can turn that off and then turn it on again when you're ready to boot from CD.

Ones of the things that makes it beep is havein devices plug into your usb ports a beep for each item, if you havent got anything plugged in, does you notebook come with the built in camera which i believe is usb powered, if it is try disableing that.
