Im trying to load XP on my VGN-NR330E.

I went to Sonys website and it said before I can load XP I will need download this file and unzip it to a floppy. ( http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNNR330E&upd_id=3503&os_id=7)

Once Ive unzipped it to a floppy Sonys site says to do the following:

How to Use the Intel 82801 SATA AHCI Driver Disk

    1. Begin the Microsoft® Windows® operating system setup by booting from the installation CD with the USB floppy disk drive connected.
    2. At the beginning of Windows operating system setup, press the "F6" key to install a third-party SCSI or RAID driver.
    3. When prompted, select "S" for Specify Additional Device.
    4. When prompted, insert the floppy disk with the Intel 82801 SATA AHCI driver files.
    5. After reading the floppy disk, the Intel 82801 SATA AHCI controller will be presented, select this driver to install.
    6. Finish the Windows operating system installation and install all necessary drivers.

Ive done exactly what is said above but when I get to step 3, and I press "S" it says Windows does not detect any floppy drive!!!????

What do I need to do for Windows to detect the floppy. The floppy is detected and works fine when I run Vista.

Any ideas or help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! THANKS!!

If your bios doesn't support USB floppies (I assume your floppy drive is USB?) directly, then you'll have to 'slipstream' the appropriate SATA driver into the XP installation disc. Try Googling for nlite and you should find what you need.

I found a couple of sites explaining it.

So I got nlite, followed these instructions: http://forum.notebookreview.com/archive/index.php/t-160809.html

First I burned it to a dvd-rw tried that and Vista still loads...so I saw most people burn it to a cd-r, burned the ISO to a cd-r, finished burning it, restarted my laptop but Vista keeps loading up?? I hear the dvd rom reading the cd-r but it wont load XP?

    What am I doing wrong!!??

EDIT: When I first tried loading XP without realizing I need a SATA driver, XP always asked first did I want to boot from CD, but it doest say that with this burned cd-r??

Also I burned the ISO from nlite and then I tried my burning software to see if it would make a difference, still same result??

has anyone here used nlite to load XP on ANY sony laptop?

I tried restarting w/ my XP cd, then took it out and put in the ISO that was burned from nlite. Still it wont load XP, I hear the disc spinning but nothing.

I let it try to load, but nothing happened, so I took the burned XP out and put in my XP cd and it loaded up just fine.

SO how do you get the burned XP to work?

Am I too assume you cant do this w/ a Sony????????

so far Sonys are PURE JUNK!! I bought this laptop less than 2 months ago, the hard drive crashed Sony wont replace it, now EVERY other laptop can use the nlite just fine except Sony.

I though HP was bad until I used this JUNK!!

Since nobody on here had any problems or I guess havent loaded XP heres how:

First go to Sony.com, download your SATA driver and all other drivers for XP.

Next find nlite and download it, then go check out this video w/ the steps to burn the ISO using nlite ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBjo_0uayQM&feature=related) Then instead of having nlite burn your disk, save the ISO to a folder on your computer.

Then heres was my problem, my burning software wouldnt burn a ISO image, so I found a free software that would, its called IMGBURN. Download IMGBURN then burn the saved ISO file above and load it up like you would a normal XP disk and you'll have XP.

You can use a cd-rw or dvd-rw to burn, it doesnt have to be a cd-r.
