For any SZ6 owner who has not done this, you absolutely must!!!!

Yesterday I swapped my TZ out for a SZ670 and the thing I missed the most was the beautiful TZ screen, but now my SZ has the same color saturation as the TZ.

Update the Nvidia driver from here : http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14932

This is for Vista 32 bit on the SZ6 models. Remember to follow the directions closely. Here is the link for the Instructions (with pictures) : http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11997

Once the drivers are updated, there is a new setting in the Nvidia Control Panel called "Digital Vibrance" under "Adjust Desktop Color Settings". This was missing before I did the driver update and was only available in XP and not Vista. :)

I set mine at 70%, don't know how correct that is, but if anyone has a way to calibrate the screen to get the right percentage so it is not oversaturated, please post here.

It is truly amazing how much better the SZ6 screen looks now. Iam glad I switched from the TZ.

You can thank me later. :)

It only changes how the screen looks in the speed setting then, right?

Can you clarify what specific driver works - will I really notice a difference in the apperance of the screen? The link is to 163.67 posted on 9-06-07

Changing your Video Card drivers will not effect your FN keys, but yes, my FN keys do work. Also, there are alot of other benefits for upgrading your video card drivers, like faster boot up, processing, longer battery life, etc.

Since Nvidia does not make drivers for laptops, laptopvideo2go is really your only option for getting the most recent drivers for you laptop. And laptopvideo2go makes drivers for all Nvidia cards so they do know what they are doing.

OK - I did this and it looks nice! Silly me - I had been running in stamina mode since my clean install and never went over to speed so I did not have the nvidia driver installed - so far so good.

Hey Techboy, thanks for pointing this out. I noticed with the original driver, The Digital Vibrance and Image Sharpening are not able to be changed.

I installed the 163.67 driver and now able to manipulate the Digital Vibrance.

Any reason not to install driver v167.26? Seems to be the latest.

Snoballz - what did you set your vibrance and image sharpening to? I was wondering the same about 167.26.

I still cannot change the Image Sharpening. Perhaps the option is in the newer driver?!

I'm still fiddling with the settings.

    Currently:
Brightness: 47% (thinking of bring this down a tad more)
    Digital Vibrance: 50%
    Contrast: 50%
Image Sharpening: None (can't change it)
    Gamma: 50%

Gamma is another setting I'm tooling around with to see if I can get a better picture.

Ironically - I am at about the same settings - finding that those work best.

Yeah, its kind of hard to beat the beautiful TZ screen, but the new drivers did help make the SZ screen look a lot better.

This work for NVIDIA Driver-SPEED mode... Is it possible to do same thing for Intel 965 Chipset-STAMINA mode (increase saturation) ?? Because it's default setting screen is washed out.. Change brightness, contrast or gamma settings is useless for saturation.. I try to change "color profile" but it's to complicate for me :(

Guys, I've just put this on my SZ691 and it ain't working so well.

Firstly, I'm using a docking station with a 20" moniter to the left side on DVI. The Nvidia control panel now puts it on the right side, and every time I try and change it to the left it messes up in some new way. This is by either ignoring the request or reconfuring something else: like switching the primary moniter, or switching over to the vga output, or just bascially malfunctioning and forcing me to hardware restart.

I can, however, change the moniter orientation using the windows "display setting" method, but it seems strage to me that nvidia control panel can't do it properly. Even on the previous driver it seemed to always change the primary moniter over when I modified any other setting - annoying.

Next problem, I can now change the digital vibrance, which is cool, but it only flickers to the setting for a fraction of a second while the selection bar is being moved. When I hit "apply" it does nothing other then reset the bar back to zero.

Last thing, for the moment I have seen it, and take this with a grain of salt because mine is clearly not working that well, it seemed that 70% was way to high - 30-40% seemed more color accurate. On 70% it was saturated to the point of being a little grotesque when viewed side by side with the Samsung syncmaster.

The only theory I have so far is that it's somthing to do with the fact that I have a P1 clean install machine. What OS are others running? the stock Sony install, some semi clean variant, xp, or the P1 optmized image???

    Cheers.

I purchased my sz691 through P1 with their imaging. I also have a docking station but I do not have an external monitor yet. So. I can't help with your first issue.

I have no issues with digital vibrance. Every percentage change registers and affects the image without any issue. I'm at 50% as I mentioned in an earlier reply.

    Good luck.

aha! I think I've solved it thanks to your feedback. If I switch off the external moniter through nvidia control panel, I can then change the Digital Vibrance no problem. I can then switch the external moniter back on, and the new setting for digital vibrance is locked in. I guess this must be because the color controls only affect one screen at a time: so instead of selecting which screen to change, which would be sensible, you have to switch only that screen on.

BTW, I've just set the vibrance to 38% and it seems to match the Samsung Syncmaster pretty well. I still think that 70% is way over the top...

    Cheers mate!

Yeah, I've now lowered my vibrance to about 40%. Now we just need to be able to do this for the x3100 card. Anyone know of any new drivers?

i have my external monitor hooked up to the vga but try this. fn+7 and put monitor only so that the sz screen goes black, then right click go to your settings and set the sz screen as extended to that one. it should be fine then.
