I hate to have to turn it off all the time. I want to make it so when I turn on my computer (which ever battery plan) is always off!

Your CD tray? Do you mean your actual CD-ROM drive? I don't think most notebooks actually HAVE a way to turn off the drive short of yanking it out. Even if you disabled the drive in Windows, it would still be "on," since it powers up with the computer.

Or did I completely miss what you actually meant?

My tz191 has an option so that I can turn off my cd drive. It saves ALOT of battery. Like 1-2 hours more of juice to be exact. So I obviously turn it off every time I turn on my computer. Its a little icon in the taskbar. Just right-click and turn off. I would like so that I dont have to do that every time I turn on my computer. I would like it so that the litthe cd-image doesnt appear there.

I dont care if I have to go through some control panel options to turn it off. I Dont use it so often.

Hmmm...you might check your BIOS to see if there is a way to default the drive to "off."

Otherwise you can take the less aesthetically pleasing approach and just pop the drive out. That's what I would do :D.

Unless the drive is spinning all the time how is it saving so much power when you turn it off? That seems like a LOT of power being consumed for a small circuit like a CD drive.

have you turned it off in your power options properties?

i think it'll still come on when you boot up, but it'll turn off when your desktop comes up after logging in.

lol...go to start-->run--> type in "msconfig" without "" and go to startup tab, and uncheck the process.

    harpreet's solution solves one problem.

As for the other, have you looked around in BIOS, not that I recommend it as if you found something, there would be no way to turn it back on unless you restart and open the BIOS again.

Are you sure the program you are using doesn't have an option to persist changes?

I dont know if it controls it or not. I just cant find the process. And When I turn it off my battery time gets boosted. So... I really dont want it on!

On my TX3, I can set the dvd drive to be off in the power management options. I don't see why they'd have removed this feature in the TZ power management. I just select the 'plugged in' tab, hit 'advanced' and then scroll down to 'other devices' and select 'disabled' for the optical drive.

If i want to use the drive, I can press the eject button above the keyboard and it powers the drive back up. This takes a few seconds longer to eject than when the power was already on, but this isn't a big problem :)
