Does anyone knows how to make optical drive to be revealed on eject key press if it was turned off according to a powersaving scheme? This issue relates only to Sony Z after Vista clean installation (by this manual: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=293880). When I had "factory installed" Vista, it worked this way. But after I have reinstalled OS, DVD drive doesn't want to wake up without restart.
Any suggestions?

your program is corrupted.. or you are using a usb device connected at same time.
eg. when i was using a usb modem, by default it select tht eject button for the usb modem instead of the dvd-drive..
have to remove the usb device before the eject button can work -
Hm, strange. I meant the hardware button on the notebook, not the USB-device-safely-remove-button in systray. How can this button be used for something other like USB modem?
Anyway, I have only a usb-mouse plugged in, nothing else.
What exactly program are you talking about? Sony Power Management software?
I think that something is missing in the software part. But what? I don't want to get back to the native Vista just because of this problem. And I want to solve it. -
maybe i didn't explained it clearly..
the eject button, will wake up the dvd-drive
but when i plug in a usb modem, for some unknown reason, the button will pair itself with the modem instead of the drive.
but since you mentioned that you only plugged in a usb mouse and nothing else, the most likely your program is corrupted.
18a- Sony Shared Lib 5.2.0.08220
18b- Setting Utility Series 4.2.0.10150
18c- VAIO Event Service 4.2.0.11060
18d- VAIO Control Center 3.2.0.09120
18e- VAIO Power Man 3.2.0.10310
not sure which program handle it as well -
I have exactly the same problem as reykjavi. I even tried to reinstall the programs Firestone mentioned but no go!!

Great! At least, I'm not alone!

how about Sony ISB Utility?

It's in that manual, so it was installed too along with other software from Sony.

Hi all,
mine working with my usb mouse attached and external hd as well. i just download Firestone files and just installed them.

Oh, really? What versions did you install and in which order? Can you remember that?
-
If your DVD drive is F: and a USB stick is E:, the USB stick will get "ejected".
If you have a virtual CD drive on D:, that will get ejected.
In their infinite wisdom, Sony made this eject button application non-configurable, so you can't change the above misbehaviour.
As we all know, Sony don't, in general, release updated versions of their software -- only critical bug fixes that don't change functionality. So don't expect it to get fixed. -
Yeah, it explains why Firestone had this strange behaviour with USB modem, but it doesn't help with my problem. I actualy had DVD drive under E: (what did change it? I remember it was under D). After your post I've changed it back to D: and then restarted my notebook. Unfortunately, there is no positive change
It still doesn't want to find the optical drive after its power was turned off/on. I hear how DVD drive starts to spin when I press Eject and icon with a disc picture in systray tells me that Power is turned on. And after that I get the next message:
---------------------------
Eject
---------------------------
Cannot open the tray of the optical drive.
Please try again to eject the tray after close the all using softwares or after shutdown the system and then start the Windows.
If there is a manual eject hole on the side of the drive, insert a thin, straight object (such as a paper clip) into the hole.
---------------------------
OK

But anyway, thanks that you clarify something, arth1. -
I finally found how to make it work!
You should install something called 'Intel ATA' or 'Intel RAID Matrix Manager'. I found this in driver package that was attached to the tutorial 'Sony Z Vista clean install' here, at forum.notebookreview.com.
Great, this bug is gone now.
How to make optical drive accessible in Vista on Sony Z?
