Sorry if this question have been answered before, but I'm really at loss at what to do currently.![]()
Been using this SZ440 for months, but I haven't been able to create a recovery DVD, I just don't know how.
Please give a step-by-step tutorial on how to make the recovery DVD.
Thank you in advance.

Usually, creating a recovery DVD is the first thing to be done, after buying the notebook. There should be some program/wizard that does it for you.
-
This is how I did it on my SZ691:
Start - Help and Support
Type in Recovery Center
it should bring up some help about it and at the bottom there is a link to open the Recovery Center.
This brings up the Recovery Center Console where you can choose to make Recovery Discs. It takes 2 DVD's.
Not sure if this is the same on your laptop.
Sorry I can't give you more details - I did Portable One's clean install so that option doesn't seem to exist on my laptop anymore. -
Wow, don't you love technology. Try in safe-mode.
-
No effect. Same thing happened.

If you can try keeping your VAIO super safe until next week, you could download Vista SP1 RC from Microsoft's download site, as Vista SP1 RC will be made available to everyone running a legit copy of Vista, next week. I've read that a new feature in SP1 is the ability to create recovery disks...so you're in luck.
Picture of the feature shown in this link:

Does that mean I have to re-install Windows and use the RC1 version?
Anyone knows how to handle this error? -
No, you dont reinstall Windows...its a service pack...I think it will be available from Microsoft's download site by this coming Tuesday, otherwise it will be provided through Windows Update, early 2008.
I think the SP1 RC which will be made available within a week is essentially the entire SP1, maybe a very few number of fixes to be made, based upon public user feedback.
...it will have the feature to create a Recovery Disk. -
I see, I should check it out then. Thanks for the information!

There is such an option, but I think it existed even before SP1. I have SP1 installed and here is the screen (see attachment). But I don't thisnk it is available in either Vista Home basic or premium only Vista Business.
Gary
P.S. from the link Vaio2k7 posted I saw a screen shot there of ANOTHER image app from SP1. See the second attachment. But I have searched around on my machine and cannot find it! All I can find is what is in attachment one below.
P.S.S. I dug around with google a bit an this new option is supposed to be in Start | ALl Program | Maintenance but sad to say it is NOT there on my fresh install of SP1 RC1. Sigh.Attached Files:

Yes, this is what I mentioned of in a previous post. I just followed your instructions Gary and indeed it is under Start -> All Programs -> Maintenance, but unusual its not there in yours with SP1. I assume you could still access it by searching "backup" or something similar?

What version of Vista are you running? One of the home venisons, or business or ultimate?
Gary -
that's interesting Gary. I haven't tried Vista SP1 RC yet, but as you mentioned, "Windows Backup and Restore Center" only exists in Business and Ultimate editions.

I am using Win Vista Business and there exist Backup and Restore Center. But it seems like no option to make a bootable DVD from the hidden partition of Sony Vaio.
I am not too sure myself... -

Sorry KarenA we are confusing two different things here. The Backup and Restore center is part of Vista. The bootable DVD from the hidden partition is a separate Sony application called VAIO recovery launcher.

Just to clarify this for everyone else, in a side conversation with Vaio2k7, it became obvious he has the Beta of SP1 not the Release Candidate. I have a feeling this item is NOT part of RC1 after all.
Gary -
Does that mean it won't fix my problem with not being able to create recovery DVD? Because my Vaio Restore Center simply doesn't work.
-
From our side conversation I suppose then I have SP1 Beta, but I have not installed it on any of my Vista running computers. I might test it out virtually but maybe at another time...besides, SP1 RC is due out this week sometime.
-
I am running Vista Business.

That is correct SP1 will not do anything to fix your issue with the Viao Restore Center software. Sorry.
