Several months back HD on this laptop died. Sony would not provide a replacement OS (something about this specific model been outdated, etc) All BS IMHO. Anyway, I replaced the HD with a new, slightly larger capacity drive and purchased some Sony system recovery discs. Which Sony now tells me that the SC discs will only work on HD of same size.
I have loaded XP on the HD and am using the laptop to write this note...so a lot is working, but I need to load the audio drivers (no sound at this time) and a few other drivers to get the thing working better...
Any reasons why I should not be able to just load the appropriate audio drivers and other drivers from the web....or am I hosed in some way because this is sony?
thanks,
Ron

Sony often tend to use customised drivers, try there support website as they have support (even old) for old and newer drivers, vista and xp.

Have second SZ and never really used the original HD, though in both cases cloned the original with Acronis.
The drivers are available and currently use regular non Sony XP home since I lost the discs and the HD died. Didnt manage to use the license from the bottom, bought a recovery from Ebay with license (Fujitsu) downloaded all the drivers from Sony support site and everything works. Just remember the proper order of installing search the forum for that. -
A site someone posted a while back - ftp of various drivers from Sony. Should have your needed driver in there.
