Hello!Does anyone knows how to set the Realtek audio card from vpc z to 7.1 channels?because i can't manage to set its just like stuck on 2 channels![]()
-
No one use a home cinema on his VPC-Z?I already tried the latest realtek drivers and still my system works in 2 channels anyone knows what should i do?
-
do you mean via hdmi?
-
What's your hardware? An AVR with HDMI pass-through? If you are just connecting it to the TV, the TV reports that it is a 2 channel device, and the interface configures itself accordingly.
-
Not by HDMI but with the normal jack 3.5" I have a desktop which has the same audio card but i can set to work 2/2.1/4.1/5.1/6.1/7.1...etc but from the notebook i don't have the possibility to do that so when i plug the audio system it works only in 2 channels and not 5.1
-
wait... how many speaker do you have?
-
I have a 5.1 system for pc so it has only jack
-
so you need 5.1 analog? it is not possible for Z unless you buy a sound card for express slot or USB sound card or get some AV the HDMI from AV to your system
-
7.1 or 5.1???
Anyway, do you mean SPDIF output over the headphone jack? -
No not SPDIF because I don't use a RCA/coaxial cable i have a 5.1 system for PC so the input is on a jack 3.5" and how i seen that even like so I can set on my desktop which has the same audio card to different scheme for the speakers i thought I could do this for the Z also but unfortunately I was amazed because you can't set the Z's realtek to different scheme it doesn't have any settings for that even if it supports up to 7.1 as they say on the official site

z on board sound card is capable to do 7.1 but lack of interface which is (the port) so you need to do it via HDMI
-
I'm confused. How are you going to get 6 analog audio channels out of one 3.5mm jack? Shouldn't you have like 6 jacks?
-
5.1 audio means 5 speakers + 1 subwoofer = 6 channels in total.
7.1 audio means 7 speakers + 1 subwoofer respectively, so 8 channels in total.
For a standard stereo audio jack (3.5 mm) you get a common ground and two speaker lines, so 2 channels per jack. If you want to hook up a 5.1 system, you will need 3 jacks at least (some soundsystems provide a single mono jack for the subwoofer which is low-passed), for a 7.1 system 4 jacks.
The Z does only have one jack for audio out and one for microphone in. They are hardwired, so you effectively can only hook up 2 external speakers through a standard stereo jack. Desktop computers often do have more speaker output jacks to hook up front/rear/center,sub speakers seperately, so physically provide enough channels in form of jacks for your soundsystem, which the Z simply does not.
There are some "virtual 7.1 surround" soundcards on the market that only provide a stereo jack - as the name suggests, this is NO true 7.1 - its a software algorithm that transforms a stereo signal into a kinda-hall sounding signal. Every audiophile would call this crap. I do so as well.
If you want to have real 5.1 sound or more, you need a proper hardware solution. There are usb and ExpressCard sound cards available that provide digital coax or optical interfaces and provide the required driver support for real dolby digital 5.1 / dts / dts hd etc. So for the proper home cinema - you will require a 3rd party solution with these interfaces, sometimes they also come with analog RCA/3.5mm stereo jack for your analog equipment.
Hope this clears up this IMO not very accurate discussion. -
Thanx for the answer that's what i was thinking also that i will need an Express Card sound card I hope to find something that it will fit good on the Z and won't pass to much outside if someone has any suggestion...?
