    Hi there

Just got my 2nd hand VGN-SZ491N from ebay. I would like to upgrade the current slower drive with a SSD drive, may I know how to remove the HDD from this model of laptop ?

    Please kindly advise.

If you have a memory stick in the slot, remove it.

    Flip the laptop over.
Next to the sliding door on the bottom you will see a recessed screw hole, remove that screw. Along the very front edge you will find 3 more screws, remove those 3.

Flip the laptop over and open it.

Along the top edge of the keyboard is a slot, if you look in that slot, about 1inch from each side you will find a small tab, press those with a small thing flathead. A credit card is probably the best thing to use. The keyboard should pop up. Flip the keyboard over and lean it against the screen (carefully).

Along the front edge of the palm rest is 3 silver screws, remove those. Nos slide the palm rest towards you about 1/4in then lift up the front edge and it should lift up. Flip it over onto where the keyboard sat.

You can now see the HD. There are 3 screws mounting it and the cable. Put a fingernail under one edge of the connector at the motherboard and lift, it should pop off. DO NOT pull up on the cable itself. Now remove the 3 screws and slide the drive out.
