I really need to know how to use sony vaio battery care function.

As for example: if i choose the battery care function (50%) then should I connect the AC Power all the time having the battery in the laptop?

Ideally, for the 50% setting you would not use the laptop on battery.
If you plan to use the laptop on battery at all, use the 80% setting and also avoid using the computer on battery until it asks to be turned off (10%).

Not really sure I understand the question...

If you don't need the battery for an extended period of time (say a few days or more), the best you could do is (dis-)charge it to approximately 50% and remove and store it in a cool place away from sunlight, etc.

If you do need your battery and occasionally use your laptop on battery, it is only you who can tell whether 50% charge gives you enough lifetime or 80% or even 100% is absolutely necessary. Battery Care gives you the opportunity to limit the charging max of the battery if you don't live in a tent, thus prolonging its life.

I personally never need more than 1,5-2h battery, so I usually keep mine on 50% or 80%, almost never at 100%

    a dumb theoretical question here:

lets say i have a battery with 100% capacity or close to it. if i want to prolong the life of the battery by setting the battery care at 80%, it will only charge it to 80% full all the time.

what if i just use my battery normally without using battery care until the wear on the battery drops down to close to 80% capacity, and then start using battery care at 80%? does it achieve the same effect in terms of battery life in the long run?

I like the idea of setting max charge to 80% to make the battery last longer. But where do I find Battery Care? I checked Vaio Care and I didn't see anything like that in there. Did I overlook it?

^It should be in VAIO control center under power management.

Unfortunately for some reason I don't understand, it is not activated on all models. I recently found out it is not available for Vaio YB

That will be 80% of 80% so you'll only be getting 64% of the original capacity. While if you'd had battery care on at 80% all the time, it would take a lot longer (according to sony - I've not tested it) before the wear level drops down to 80% capacity. So it wouldn't be the same effect.

I think you still don't get the concept. By limiting the maximum charge of a battery you prolong its life in the long run.
Analogy - if you drive your car in lower RPM you prolong the life of your engine. If you first drive it like F1 until it breaks or wears off and then start driving it gently it will not heal it - it will still be warn off!

Pretty much the same with batteries. And I can confirm that taking good care of a battery prolongs its life - I still have my over 5 years old batter of a laptop that died long time ago - the battery is still at over 90% of its capacity!
