    Guys,

I'm really interested in finding out how to modify NVIDIA drivers to be usable on a VAIO?

Which inf file has to be edited (nvszf.inf I believe...?) and how?

    The modified drivers need to:

    1. Be installable on a Vaio machine (which the original aren't)
    2. Allow auto dimming of the brightness of the screen!

I know some of you have been so kind to do that in the past. In my case ver. 266.58 is now due and I would like to learn what needs to be modified in general.

I think a small instruction will be highly appreciated by everyone here!

    Thank you in advance!

No, wanted to ask first. As far as I know something additionally has to be added/edited in order for that to be possible. I had installed older drivers that were modified - they installed successfully but auto-dimming did not work.

Does anyone have a clue? :)

Will try it soon and let you know.

Exactly you :) You were one of the neat guys to modify a driver :) Didn't know you were still around!

Would be great if you can create a small manual.
My main concern and question is what needs to be modified in order for the driver to allow auto brightness dimming....

Haven't yet tried the one samozen, if anyone already has - please share how it works?

Here is the attached modded inf. Download the 64-bit Nvidia verde notebook driver, extract it using 7-zip or Uniextract.

Copy and replace the attached "nvszc" inf in the "Display.Driver" folder in the extracted driver package. Make a copy of the original "nvszc" inf, so that you will know what had changed in the modded inf.

I will post the instructions to mod later. Try the modded inf and let me know how it goes.

The modded inf contains Sony specific settings from the latest 197.91 driver supplied by Sony.

Uninstall the existing GPU driver before trying this driver. Choose "Custom Install" at the set up screen, and check the option "Perform Clean install".

    You are welcome.

Do you have any delay when logging off?

I get a log off notification (waiting for background processes to close) with this driver in my FZ. The process NvXDSync.exe might be responsible for this delay.

The notification comes up during Restart/ Shut down/ Log off (all involve logging off), but not everytime, only sometimes.

Edit: Gracy123, I forgot to add an existing "entry" in the inf, so re-uploaded the inf. This shouldn't affect your install.

I just made a modified nvszc.inf for my vaio CW2S1E (VPCCW2S1E) if anyone wants/needs. its for DEV 0A2B SUBSYS 9072104D. the nv_miscBase_addreg's were taken from the original official 188.67 driver from sony's website, aswell as the nv_commonDisplayModes_addreg. As there were no nv_timingRestrictions_addreg's in the original, i got these from laptopvideo2go's modified 197.01 which has added compatibility for the 9072104D subsys along with others. anyway the rest is 266.58, so just download that from nvidia and copy over the inf if you want to use this. brightness buttons working fine, all games working on my windows 7 home premium SP1 machine.

windows vista 64 bit (section041) and windows 7 64 bit (section042) should both work.

I'm looking for specific modded inf files for my Vaio VGN-SZ650N.

At the moment im running the latest NVidia 275.33 (32bit) drivers with the modded inf files from laptopvideo2go and i keep getting crashes (no bluescreens, only restarts graphic driver) while watching videos online (youtube for example). But this seems to be happening only while using my docking-station/external monitor.

nevertheless i would appreciate it, if someone (maybe coolguy?) could provide me the needed files for the drivers mentioned above. Both, 32 and 64bit version would be cool though.

    Hardware-ID
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427&SUBSYS_9008104D&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427&SUBSYS_9008104D
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427&CC_0300

Maybe i can get rid of the crashes with the right modded inf files for my Vaio.

    Thanks in advance!

I tried them this morning, despite the fn brightness keys do not work the strange thing is that even from the windows mobile control panel i do not any brightness control at all,it disappeared,no option at all
on second hand the brightness is set to its maximum and there is no way to lower it
the installation bytheway went fine without given any errors,i don't get how brightness control can suddenly disappear,my gpu is listed as supported

the only driver provided by vaio for my vgn-cs21s are the forceware 186.40 win 64 as stated by gpu-z,hope this can help ( http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computi...0208301.exe&m=VGN-CS21S_R&ip=EP0000208301.htm)

Could you clarify what you are doing?

e.g. your VGN came with Vista preinstalled and you are doing a clean install of Windows 7 and the brightness control is not working.

i did a clean install of win7 and the vaio driver works fine.
unfortunately it's a very old driver and i wanted to install the newest one to get dxva on photoshop, adobe flash etc since my sister uses these programs.

when i install the latest with the modded .inf of laptopvideo2go i do not have any brightness control at all,nor through the windows mobile control panel or through the fn keyboard keys,so i was wondering how to have brightness control enabled
moreover the brightness is fixed to the maximum

Copy and replace the "nvszq" inf from the attached zip file in the Display.driver folder of the 280.26 Win 7 64-bit notebook driver. This modded inf only supports Windows 7 64-bit and has all the OEM GPU settings preserved.

Will that modded 280 inf work with a vaio VGN-AW310J? I have the Geforce 9600M-GT card. Tried updating with the modded infs provided by laptopvideo2go and I just keep getting BSODs when I start. It seems to install alright, just can't avoid the BSOD. Running Windows 7-64bit

Edit: The BSOD always shows up right after start up and always involves nvlddmkm.sys

    Thanks

Back again, trying to update to 285.62 using the modded inf file from laptopvideo2go.com, but like the last time I just get BSOD after a little while with nvlddmkm.sys as the cause. Was able to get 280.26 with coolguy's modded file.

Mostly I just don't understand why that worked, but laptopvideo2go.com do not work (tried asking over there, but never got an answer last time either) Thanks for any answers.

    Running windows 7 64-bit. Geofroce 9600M GT

Edit: Saw CoolGuy had updated inf's used those and I'm up and running successfully. Still curious why laptopvideo2go.com's modded files cause BSODs

    Dear coolguy
I have nvidia 310M GPU, however I tried to replace the inf file with the one you attached but I still get the message "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware" when I try to run the setup file... is there something I'm doing wrong? I'd be grateful if you could help. Thanks.
