I'm glad they cooperated. They make so much money on the films anyway its not even worth their time to say no to their customers :).

You can also try the bulk 3M material they use to put on cars. Same type of material for a whole lot less.

Thanks. Are there any other pre-cut ones for the Z13 palm rests? No matter how these look, they can't be as bad as my cutting skills :p ....

Unfortunately, these are the only precut ones I've seen for the palm rest. I would recommend measuring the dimensions and cutting the DIY kits yourself. It might take you one or two tries, but it definately pays off.

I hope more people will do the same thing I have done and contact ZAGG asking for the invisibleshild for the Vaio Z1 series, and tell them if we have the money to buy a notebook for 2000$ we want to protect it and we can buy a 40$ invisibleshild protection

There's isn't enough Z1s in the first place for invisibleshield to bother with doing a precut set

That's right. Since the Vaio Zs doesn't have a large enough pool of owners, it doesn't give Zagg enough incentive to make precut invisibleshields for them.

I decided to give a chance to this skin protection, I asked and they confirmed that they have the VPC-z1 pattern. I ordered one and waiting for delivery. I’ll post some picture after installing

Ordered my DIY from BSE, on it's way! Just a quick question - is it better to protect the touchpad as well? I will not be removing my palmrest and was wondering if I should just go for the actual two palmrests + mouse buttons, rather than everything (e.g. touchpad, area above the touchpad, etc.).

Eekamouse, I think it is in general a bad idea to use any chemicals. Why don't you just use water and soap?

Anyone found a solution for this?

I also want to find a protective shield for my palmrest, but have yet to find the optimal solution.

I took mine to a car tint shop that puts the clear bras on cars. I had the installer use the machine to two pieces for the palmrest (rectangles). He said the machine likely could not cut that precise "U" shape if it were one piece, so the area above my trackpad is not covered. I also had them do the lid.

In the mean time I bought some of the material and did the trackpad, mouse buttons, finger print surround, stickers on the bottom, and battery as well.

I would say, leave the bigger pieces such as the palmrests and lid to the professionals, but the smaller stuff you can do yourself. The bigger areas are a little harder to do because you have to apply it in one go, and if there's not enough solution or you didn't set it in right, you can see some imperfections in the film like where you had to peel it off and reapply, it leaves a crystal like mark within the film itself.

I'm pretty happy with the professional job, the film went over the "VAIO" on the left side with no problems and now the logo looks embossed in the film which is pretty cool. The matte lid magically became a glossy one and I love the way it looks. The film is susceptible to scratches, but most of the finer ones could be rubbed off with denatured alcohol.

I mean a pro is not going to take his time and make a perfect little "U" cutout and a small rectangle for the fingerprint reader. The only key to applying it yourself is after you put a little solution on the area of the computer and the film (so be very careful if you're doing this right on the computer like me) DON'T press on the film with a point like the tip of your fingernail, it will leave a dent while the film is wet. Just press with a blunt object like the tip of your finger or a SIM card.

I would say if you want to protect your Z, order some of the film and just try it yourself. The best way to cut this material is with a straight edge, sharp xacto, and sometimes scissors.

Thanks for posting that link to Zagg. It must be a new product because when I was in the market for something like this back in November, 2010, no clear one existed.
