OMG.... i can't say enough about the s460
Ok even if it heats up even if it has a wobbly battery SO WHAT?
I went to the store and checked out the averatec cpu's..... This is what i can conclude about them, They SUCK!!!! dont' get me wrong, their screen sucks. From what i know it's pretty fair thesedays you pay more you get more.
I checked out the SONY T countless times after i bought the S and i do admit i wish i had bought the T cuase it's so damn cute and small, But to be realistic... the Sony T isn't powerful enough for normal use. I mean the screen size... it's horrible (After you stare at it more than an hour).
Even though the Sony is expensive it's worth every penny. Seriously try going to the store where they display laptops. Pick up a laptop and you'll find you'll be glad you bought the Sony S.

i m glad you like your new s460. i have to agree with you: T-series are much 'cuter' but lacks in performance. Thats the reason why i bought s-series..

I've loved the S series ever since it came out.

My other notebook is a 17" PowerBook, so my standards were set pretty high. I've had my S460 for over a month now and must say it was worth every penny. Keep in mind, I've been wanting buy an S Series since the S160.

I agree that this is the best notebook in it's class. This thing it's the Dell 700m alive, and I don't see a fujitsu, hp, averatec, toshiba or anything that can match this in power and size. just need to find a way to control the heat better!

I was -THIS- close to picking up an S380 a while ago, if it wasn't so high priced. I'll agree though; when I was looking at the mainstream computer manufacturers, the Sony was the best out there.
Once I started looking into the lesser known brands though (the stuff NOT in the computer stores^^), the S suddenly didn't look that attractive anymore. -

Which brands are you referring to specifically?

The Compal 2020 (badged as a ChemBook)
The Asus W3V
Both are a little bigger at 14" widescreen instead of 13.3, Which may be a turn off for some people, but I didn't mind the little added size (Asus actually has a 13.3 widescreen notebook coming out, dubbed the W6). I also know Asus builds some of Sony's notebooks for them, but I'm not sure which models.
I ended up picking the Asus W3V over both the Chembook and the Sony. I'll honestly say though, after using the W3V for about a month, the Sony S series feels cheap and flimsy when I played with it at Fry's Electronics a few days ago.
BTW, to see how it compares to the sony sizewise, here's a whole thead on it: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=19696&highlight=S460
