So I broke the little antenna that was on the side of my Vaio TX model. What was it used for? Was it for the wireless network in my house or was it for the Sprint internet thing that I never used?

How did you manage that? It was your WAN antenna, or the Sprint internet thing you never used.

If never use your internal cellular modern (the Sprint thing, as you put it), then everything's ok. Your WLAN (wifi) card in usually built into the display or in the main unit of the laptop itself.

Nope, the wifi antenna is built into the laptop, that antenna is for the WWAN service.

I read somewhere that this antennae is supposed to be able to pop right off, so I did. BUT does anyone know of a Sony part that can be ordered that can plug that hole? It kind of bothers me, and I'm trying not to resort to shaving the wiggly antennae down and just putting the base plug back in (in case I need the antenna in the future).

I've seen another thread with a user requesting this part. I suggest you search the Sony forums. I'll look as well, and post back if I find something.

Is it possible to install a WAN antenna on a SZ320? The opening where the sim card is closed, but could it possibly be opened?

Yes, there is a plug that covers up the hole. The TX850P here in North America and all other TXs worldwide do not have the antenna or any WWAN modem and they have a cap to cover up the hole, sorry I dunno where to get it though.

Are you sure the TX850P has no cellular modem? I thought they did, but Sprint service instead of Cingular.

Well, couldn't find the part anywhere here nor on the web in general, so I'll probably shave mine down and stick the nub back in. If I ever want to use the Edge modem I'll order a new antenna.

Still though, I keep thinking why use the edge modem when I can just tether and use the Edge data off of my Tmobile Dash.

Yes, the TX850P does not have the antenna or modem.
The TX600s and TX700s use Cingular's EDGE and the TXNs use Sprint's EVDO.
