I replaced a hard drive on my Sony Vaio VGN-NS215N.

When removing the touchpad retaining clip, I broke the white plastic retainers. I tried to repair the problem by installing the black retaining bar, installing the ribbon cable tightly and securing both with electrical tape. I should have worked, but does not. A mouse works, but the touchpad will not. I installed a new driver, thinking it was not installed on the new drive but no luck.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I doubt if you will be able to fix this. The white retainer is more than just a retainer if I remember correctly. I belive it actually clamps down the connections onto the ribbon. Just pushing the ribbon into the connector will not cause complete contact. Can you take a CLEAR closeup picture of the parts you are talking about INCLUDING the spot where the white retainer should go?
