    Hi,
I bought a Vaio laptop last Christmas from the internet during the boxing day sale. I didn't read the paper saying that I had to do my own reinstallation CD.

Now, I have a problem with my laptop. It doesn't open anymore. When it does, it takes about 10 minutes to go to the sign-in page and about 10 seconds after I see my desktop, it closes. I can't do any scans for viruses and I'm not very good with hardware stuff. When it shuts down after 10 seconds, it says that there is a DCOM error and/or a Plug-and-Play error.

I don't mind reinstalling Vista but I don't have the CD. Can anyone help me please ?

    ohh, crap..
yeah, i recommend buying one of those anytime upgrade cd's (for 10 bucks i think).. according to many users here, it includes the full vista installation and the version that u install will depend on the cdkey you have

Yeah, that's the only way that I can go on my desktop.

I've checked for the Windows Anytime update and for what I saw, it's about 80$.

Does your laptop have a recovery partition? Try all of the f1-f12 buttons separately and see if any of them lead you into a recovery partition.

Where do I have to try the f1 to f12 button ? When the computer opens or when I'm at the sign-in page in safe mode ?

I hit repeatedly the F2 button when I turned on the computer and it showed me the Phoenix TrustedCore (tm) Setup Utility. There are 5 options : Main, Advanced, Security, Boot and Exit.

Is that what I needed ? If it is, what should I do next ?

I think I keep one VAIO Vista upgrade DVD. Let me know if you need it. It was for my TX and I don't own it anymore.

Oh sorry for the mistake. Yeah, F2 is to access BIOS.

The F10 key will bring up the recovery program. Hit it repeatedly when you turn on the laptop.

I'm in the VAIO reinstallation center.

There are 4 options : ( I translated them in English, they might not be the exact name)

    Windows System Restore
    VAIO material diagnosis
    C disk reinstallation
    Data Recovery

I think Windows System Restore might be what you want? Before you do this, though, back up any data in safe mode onto an external hard drive or something, because I think that will install a new system.

    Uhoh, big problem.

There has been no restore points made... but, I made 1 every two weeks when my computer was working. Weird.

Huh. That is weird. In that case, you might want C Disk Reinstallation. Hopefully that's the option that re-installs the operating system on your computer!

I think It's C drive Recovery not C disk reinstallation, that will going to Restore you're computer back to it's factory setting and normally takes 2hrs to complete.
