I'm taking my Vaio SZ680 to Phnom Penh Cambodia and am leery about leaving it alone in a motel room, so I'm thinking about purchasing a security lock for it.

Does anyone know if this will work on the SZ?

And if it does, how does it lock into the laptop? Does my laptop have a spot that I don't know about for a security lock?

I have no experience with these things so any information is helpful. Thanks! :)

Most computer peripherals have whats known as a Kingston Lock. It's basically an oval located somewhere on your laptop that said lock secures into.

The way it works (see above picture) is you tie it down around a leg or something and loop it through the hole, then lock to the PC. It's very simple.

I do not own said notebook, but I'm willing to bet it has a kingston lock.

(Oh yeah, don't laugh about the old laptop lol, google pics xD)

Haha thanks, yea I love that laptop pic.

Does anyone know if the SZ has this Kingston lock? I keep flipping my laptop over again and again and have no idea what I'm looking for lol.

I didn't see this advertised for any laptop in a long time, but every one has it.
Look for a oval slot 1/4 x 1/8" (6 x 3 mm). It will be close to the corner on the back or one of the sides.
Problem is somebody could still steal your locked laptop if they don't care about ripping a little or big piece of side panel.

The SZ has the kingston lock slot, its located on the rear left side, next to the air vent.

Ahhh, sweet thanks! I see it now... I had no idea that's what that was. It's just a tiny little oval cut-out in the back.

I have problem finding a lock for my SZ. It seems that the lock should be different than other laptops, because when I try my friends' ones they just can be pulled out without opening the lock
Does anybody have one for his/her SZ?

You should use the ones "BestBuy" is using. Those look pretty tough!

yea, but if its a carbon fiber one, then it will be pretty solid! Carbon fiber is a very strong (but brittle) material.

And some laptops have metal where the kensington lock slot is...my HP NX6110 is made of plastic, but the area of the lock slot is metal when you look into the hole!
