After my clean install and installing all the stuff in order suggested, the touchpad used to let me run my finger down the very right edge of the pad and it would "Scroll" instead of just move the mouse.... as i am typing this, i do not have that ability any more... any ideas what i am missing or need to run/reinstall?

    thanks in advance

Yay, it gets better... a windows update knocked out my wireless...

i fixed the above problem by reinstalling the touchpad drivers/utility, i tried to do the same to fix the wireless (reinstall software), no dice....

i know its not my wireless router, because i can usually see 4-5 networks from here, can't see any now..... i just get "Wireless Network Unavailable"

i also tried using System Restore to go before the Windows Update.... didn't help....

    this sucks....

hm.. these posts just confirm i should stick to a default install
with various software uninstalled and the registry cleaned in-
stead of a clean install - too much of a hassle.

i recommend you use your recovery disks/partition and remove
that which you don't want/need and clean the registry after-
wards using c.r.a.p. cleaner or some other registry cleaning tool.

if you want to fix your problem, try getting the latest intel wifi
drivers from intel.com (not from your sony package) - it should
be a newer version than in the sony set - perhaps that will work
    for you.

    good luck :)

Yeah, i'll bring my laptop into work today and work on those new drivers as i have time....

If that doesn't work, i may give Norton Ghost a whirl and restore my C: from right after install (when everything worked)

This wouldn't be the first time Windows Update has created havoc

Dammit.. it happened again... this time i think it happened after i installed iTunes..... something in Windows is (1) Corrupting my touchpad drivers, and (2) Making the Intel Wireless software not see that the card is physically on (as shown in the picture attached)... when i boot, the "WLAN" light stays on until Windows is done loading all its startup stuff, then the light extinguishes.... this has "conflict" written all over it, but ****ed if I can find out what it is

I forgot to comment about the image, you can see what the Intel software is telling me, but you can clearly see that the switch is "On"

also, since i thought it might have been post-iTunes installed related, i used System Restore to roll back, but same problem....

There have been so many problems reported after clean installs this does not surprise me one bit. I would suggest you do the semi clean install using the Sony discs, that should definately fix any driver related problems. I did the semi clean install on my SZ and everything is working great.

Edit: here is the link to that thread. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=44587

Thanks for the link, i'll go at that as a last resort, but i do not have the recovery disks nor the software installed to generate them

i am back on WiFi right now, as i used a Norton Ghost image again to roll back before it got knocked out..... this time i have iTunes installed and up to date on Windows Updates.... so far, so good
