Recently my Vaio went to Sony for a repair under warranty, its an AR51SU. The problem was that the fan was staying on all the time even when no applications were open and it was throwing out quite a bit of heat.

They changed the main board, cleaned the heatsink and added some new thermo paste and did a bios update.

I got the laptop back and since then ive had quite a few problems that i never had before.

Ive had a lot of problems playing poker on the net where the software is freezing on me, also its been very laggy where if i press a button their will be a few seconds delay before it does anything. I asked other players if they were having the same issue, they all replied no.

Also my web browsing has been very lethargic, when i launch IE it can hang on a white page for a good while before it loads, firefox is a bit better but not by much.

Ive checked the laptop direct to the internet just incase it was my ISP and its still the same, really sluggish and hanging so its not the router. I did a broadband speedtest and that was fine, i`m getting what i pay for which is 2 meg broadband. I never had any problems before the laptop went away to be repaired.

We have another laptop in the house which is an Acer, ive just checked that on the wireless connection and it runs perfect, no lag, no sluggishness and no hanging.

I play poker on full tilt, on my Vaio laptop which is the one giving me the problems its really hanging bad and its delayed by a good fe seconds, if a press a button it doesn`t react for a while, certain things hang and freeze.

Now on the other laptop the Acer the same poker software runs perfect both direct to the internet and on a wireless connection.

Like i said above, this laptop went to Sony for a repair under warranty with a fan issue where it was staying on all the time, they changed the main board, they cleaned the heatsink and added some new thermac paste.

Could the change of main board be the cause of these new problems above, it was fine before it went away and no all these hanging, freezing and delay problems while surfing the net and playing poker.

The fan still stays on all of the time and blows out quite a bit of heat, i heard that some Vaio laptops had a problem with Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics cards, could this be the problem which would explain the fan being on all the time and the heat being thrown out ?

Some expert advice would be really helpful.

Have you checked to see if there are any updates for your poker software? Have you tried updating your drivers?

Poker software forces updates, you cannot play until you update your software so i'm quite sure that that has nothing to do with his problem.

I would check what processes are running. It sounds like something is eating up all your processor power, which would explain your other programs being sluggish and the amount of heat.
Otherwise it might be a driver issue as padme suggested. Maybe there is something different in your new motherboard that is not playing nicely with your installed drivers. A possible solution would be to do a reformat and a (semi)clean install but it's a pita reinstalling everything.

This cured it, like you say above its a pain staking job to wipe the drive which takes about 2-hrs 15 mins if done correct then you have to re-install windows which also takes an eternity then all the sony drivers and windows updates have to be done.

At least i now know that i have a fresh hard disk and a fresh install of windows, thanks for your help.
