On this quite nice SZ670, the "Battery Care Function" is missing. It should be available from VAIO Central > Power Management > Battery Care, but I can't find it.

This is the little utility that allows the user to set the charge level of the battery at 50, 80, or 100%. Mine is stuck at 80%, and the utility was inadvertently deleted when the bloat was being stripped.

Is there any way to get it back without a re-installation or restore? Is there a stand-alone utility that will set that charge level?

    Thanks!!

I do not have a sony, but have you tried their support/site? I know they have great products and should have a good site. Good luck.

    Thanks.
I've talked with Sony and they can provide the Restore package, but not this separate utility. The entire Restore includes what I need, plus all the adware, demoware, junkware, trialware, etc.

you can find a program called launcher.exe in C:\Program Files\Sony\Vaio Recovery\ . this is essentially the recovery program in your laptop that allows users to re-install all the utilities and trial softwares (you do have the option to choose which one you wish to install). :)
Good luck, I hope this helps.

Just a little note, launcher.exe launches the Vaio Recovery Centre in which you will see "Reinstall Programs or Drivers"

    Thanks, but...
I used Launcher.exe and indeed found the Power Management utility on one of the disks. I installed it, and the BATTERY CARE function is still not available. And worse, the FN+F1 wireless switch is now nonfunctional!

    This is frustrating...

Click -> "Start" > All Programs > Vaio Control Center > Categories > Power Management. You should find the Battery Care Function here.

Battery care should be available in vaio recovery and you should be able to recover it individually. If that fails download Sony Utilities (It contains battery care) from sony site here - http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNSZ670NC&upd_id=2882&os_id=29

That is the sony utilities package 49.9mb and there is no harm in reinstalling it. It has got no bloatware, adware etc, its essential for Sony Laptops.

If you just want to reinstall batterycare use this app uniextract - http://legroom.net/software/uniextract - to extract the batter care utility from the package and install it individually.

This is the main download site for SZ670 Vista drivers and utils:

First - thank you, Raul and Speed.
I downloaded the SONY UTILITIES pack and installed it (a lengthy process!). I have never been able to see VAIO CONTROL CENTER in the START>PROGRAMS menu or in the SONY folder, and have no idea why. I see VAIO SETUP and VAIO UPDATE, and the camera, but not more. Hidden folders are visible. I therefore went back to the SZ drivers and utils site and installed everything that issued after the date this unit was purchased. No problems, but no change or improvement - and I still lack some things.

After many hours of getting this lovely machine "just right", I would hate to do a RESTORE, but that looks like my fate because I'm missing some important functions.

I think the function works by setting the max charge on the battery, so it will only "work" if the battery includes the charge-limiting circuitry.

The function/utility depends very much also on the type of batteries that are being delivered with the laptops. Not all batteries can support this cool feature

    cheers ...

It's only Sony. The battery itself has to have the charge limit circuitry, which is just "set" by the software. It's easy to check.

Set 80% on one computer, 100% on the other. Switch batteries, and the settings move as well.

I think there no compatible driver X64 for that unit. you can try checking advance setting in the power options.
