I just bought some Corsair PC5300 ram from Zipzoomfly.

    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=90054

The 1gb stick looked fine and tasty to me but once I popped into my lovely SZ140 the laptop wouldn't boot up. I tried it with the 512mb stick still in there and without it but no progress. I'm back to 512mb now. Do you think I have bad ram? And if I get a new stick would I be able to run a 1gb stick and a 512mb stick at the same time?

Are you sure you're installing the ram correctly? Make sure it is firmly seated into the slot before pressing down. Have you tried the Corsair by itself?

no you cant use a 1gig and a 512 chip together,it has to be 2 of the same size chips,2 512's or 2 1gigs.make sure that there seated correctly and lined up.

That is just untrue. You may lose dual channel, but it should work. Of course there are cases of ram being incompatible with certain motherboards and other brands of ram. My Sony came with Nanya chips. Perhaps it is incompatible with the Corsair? Although I'm pretty sure there are SZ users out there with Corsair sticks that work.

    Hi.
Corsair still work with SZ but it not perform very well ( I cannot see any different when I got 2gb of Ram in my SZ sv 1 Gb ram came from Sony) until I switch to OCZ RAM it make a real different.I love it

I can't imagine there being a noticable difference between different brands of ram. If there is a noticable difference, I would have to say there is a problem with the ram. Ram is designed and built to specific standards and specs that makes them compatible for the most part. Corsair makes good memory, and if you had a problem with a set of sticks, it is likely they were defective, or there may have been some debris or something on the contacts when they were installed that subsequently was cleared just by removing the ram. I would have no hesitations about using Corsair, Mushkin, Crucial, OCZ, and several others.

Losing dual channel is not going to cause you a big performance hit. A single stick of DDR2 will nearly saturate the bus from what I have been able to glean from reading up on this chipset.

I bought Corsair because I thought it would run faster... Still waiting for it to be delivered.

Wanna give me step by step instructions on how you got to the place that the ram was stored?

Not sure if I understand your questions hoya2010. Do you mean, what is the procedure for locating and installing RAM on the SZ?

If so, on the underneath of the SZ are several panels that can be unscrewed. The one you want to remove is the rectangular one nearest the keyboard / at the front of the laptop. Undo the two screws and there you will see the RAM.
