Got a i7 vaio laptop which is nearly a year old.
Speedfans telling me its running in the range of 80-90 when idle, and reaches 100-110 when even putting a small amount of stress on it. So basically ive brought a room fan that seems to keep it idling at roughly 70ish.
Literally cant touch the side of the laptop for long without burning your hand, and i think the plastic got soft on the ethernet port, so when the cable got yanked a bit, the casings for the socket broke.
Is this common for the i7 vaio's (VPCf12moe) or should i try getting it repaired within warranty?
Cheers guys.

How hot is your room? -
if it's still within waranty then get sony to fix it asap. Normally when idle, it should be just under 50 degree celcius. And around 70 degree max for vpcf1.

Speedfan is in Celsius and my room is normal room temp, it also really slows down when i put it under load when its hot.
Think i need to take it back but im gonna struggle to be without a laptop for 2weeks+ -

You should definitely open it up and blow out the dust that's clogging up the exhaust vent. Have you had this probelm all along? Or, just as time went by?

Did you check the CPU?GPU usage? Is something (possibly malware) running in the background hogging resources and stressing the hardware?
Also, is the fan running as expected? Fans become slower with age and eventually die. People have already told you about clogged air passages and vents.
Don't know if it is possible to check voltages in your laptop. If they are out of spec (too high) you'll get excessive heating. -
The VAIO F1... series does a remarkable job at keeping cool, as demonstrated by all of the fan noises. In my climate (Seattle), my CPU won't go over 66c under 100% load for 20 minutes.
Multiple processes and/or malware should not be the driving factor. It's either dry thermal paste or dirty fan/vent. There's also the extremely rare need for BIOS update/reset. Check with user jpride on her experience with that issue.
I7 vaio running HOT!
