Question for all you with Sony Vaio Z.
Has any of you installed software that sends your IP-number automatically to your e-mail adress in case your vaio get stolen?

Read an article saying that Lenovo developed a similar technology.

    NO.
I use a similar kind of software on my mobile phone. If some one change the SIM card it will send a SMS to the phone number that I have set then you know the phone number to call back.

It seems that monthly fee is pretty hi for a $2000 item.

So what you guys basically are telling me is that there is no software for theft, a software that sends the computers IP-number after being stolen to your email?

I just turn on power-on password, so whoever got it cannot use it (make a strong password). Then I'll claim insurance if it is stolen. Most policies cover theft away from home.

If someone stole it and cannot log in, then he/she would just reformat the hd and install the OS. How can it sent you the IP address?

It is very easy to write a program to send you current IP to you email on startup...

So I guess there is a free solution for that...
