Here's a silly question. I took apart my VPCZ12 (which has a Newmodeus HDD caddy installed, btw) to clean it. Once I had the keyboard/palmrest off, I turned the base upside down for a second, and this part (picture attached) fell out. I can't for the life of me identify it, even though I have the full parts schematic. Think it might have come from near the VGA port, but not sure. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no, that's definitely not the part. This thing came out after I'd removed and set aside the palmrest assembly.

It really looks like a tiny grounding component, and has a very small hole that's supposed to sit over a plastic nub. In that respect, it looks like a piece that might have come with the Newmodeus caddy, but AFAICT, I have all those pieces in place.

Ah, well. I'll keep looking over the schematic.

I think you might have gotten me on the right track, though. It looks like #35 from the palmrest. Now how that could've come out, I'm not sure, so I'll have to get back in there and take a look. I did have a service guy replace my plamrest twice within the first several months of owning the laptop, and maybe he forgot to put it back in and dropped it in the base by acci

Also, I love how the schematic has a number on everything but no reference as to what the parts are. I might need to go to Sony parts online to see if I can identify its purpose.

    --Update--

It was palmrest part #35, and the screw was nowhere to be found, so I scrounged one up from my collection of old parts. Either a mistake by the Sony tech who repaired my laptop or something wrong straight from the factory. I wonder if it'll have any impact on occasional crazy behavior from the touchpad.

Thanks for re-posting the schematic, Computer Cowboy.
