I guess, looking at the inadequacies of the US Sonystyle, lots of people (me included) have already done so or are considering getting the SZ90 Premium from Japan direct. We have seen links of www.jp.sonystyle.com with configuration menus etc, but has anyone till now bought something direct from there and received it in US, being an end user?

I mean besides having issues with trying to decipher Japanese (none of the language translators work so I will be taking help from some japanese colleagues), there are a few open ends I guess...

    1. Does Sony Japan ship direct to USA?
    2. Is the Voltage in Japan same as US, or Japan put in a different AC adapter for shipments to USA?
    3. And more importantly, what happens at US Customs? Do you need to pay some import duty, and if so how much, cos' that would really upset things right?

I guess if we can come up with some streamlined process for this, and if it works to our advantage, then Sonystyle US can close shop for SZ's, as it is they are not much help

    1. No - you need an importer like Dynamism or have someone buy it for you there and send it to you.
    2. Switching AC - it's 100 - 240v adapter, plug is same two prong as US
    3. Again, you can't order from SOny Japan. When buying via Dynamism, I don't pay customs. When I got my Sharp from someone who bought it for me and sent it EMS, I also didn't pay. That's no guarantee that if someone other than an importer buys it for you and sends it to you that you won't have to pay.
