    Hi all,

Overall the Vaio z21 is a superb laptop.

One big disadvantage, sound from the build in speakers is not good. So I tried to find settings to tweak things. Thirst I found a dolby surround setting. When I turned it off the sound was better, but not good enough.

When I searched on Bing for other settings ,a tab with loudness and bass boost showed up. To enable loudness and bass boost you have to revert to the original Windows 7 drivers. So uninstall the current driver and make sure you select the option to delete the current audio drivers. Reboot and you have a High Definition Audio Device. Now you are able to select Bass boost and Loudness equalization.

With those tiny tinny speakers, even SRS HD Audio Lab couldn't do anything significant. :p Most mobile phones have better speakers.

Remove the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, Version 6.0.1.6353 for Microsoft® Windows® 7. I got the best result with only loudness turned on. But don't expect a miracle.

Ok, so I understand you have a Vaio Z21 and tried the windows default sound drivers?

I'm an engineer. :p Have you seen the speakers? They are about the size of a postage stamp (the small sized stamps).

The Windows default audio driver might give a significant volume boost with those tiny speakers. I wouldn't count on the tiny speakers for good audio quality though.

The speakers are indeed very small and I understand the physical limitations of small speakers. The Sony drivers make things worse (especially the Dolby Surround option) and the standard windows drivers make the speakers more usable.

AFAIK, the dolby surround option is only when outputting the sound (in multi-channels) vioa say HDMI. What surround do you expect with 2 tiny speakers?

    So, I don't expect surround.

When I plug in my HDMI cable, audio is controlled by Intel Display audio and not the realtek controller.
