Z27 is $3,999 according to Chatswood store. Didn't have one to show me. I would have like to compare the premium carbon cover. Maybe next week.

thanks for the confirmation re the phone/case.
and no blu-ray is not a huge difference for the cost.

i'm having many issues with my pc this week and could really do with a laptop right NOW but still can't afford the Z yet. i'm wondering if i should just get an SR maybe instead..... :(
will take another look this week

i dont think anyone has mentioned this yet but the biggest cost difference i see between the Zx6 and Zx7 series is the processor cache.

The Zx6 processor has only 3MB cache while the Zx7 has a whopping 6MB cache. Processor cache is probably still the most expensive part of a computer so would definitely absorb quite a large amount of the price difference.

stupid question time - what does the extra cache mean in real terms with fairly basic usage plus photoshop?

pracola - i noticed this case in the spring catalogue - is it the one you're after?
its for the Z and is VGP-CVZ1

I have just started using the VGN-Z27GNX, nice machine even with Vista running (i never thought i would hear myself say that!!!).

Biggest improvement between the z27 and the z17 or z26 is
-The HDD speed (7200rpm rather than 5400rpm)
    -Cache (6mb rather then 3mb)

These 2 items make spending the extra worthwhile.

Blueray is just a added benifit (not worth the extra $'s), if the only reason why your wanting to spend the extra money is due to BlueRay, wait 6 or so months as it will slowly begin to be standard throughout alot of the brands and drop in price.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Z17 and Z27 both come with 6mb cache.
The price difference between the Z17 and Z27 is mostly because of the blueray drive.

I saw one at DJ in the city today. Also most (all?) Sony Centers should have them, but not necessarily on display - you have to ask one of the sales guys to bring one out.

    Hello Guys.

I can see that you are having a discussion about the Z series of SONY VAIO and I was wondering if you can help me with a question.

I want to know if you can turn a VAIO VGN-Z26LN/X model to english. This is the Korean version. I really want to buy this computer but I do not know a thing about Korean. Currently I am in Korea and I will be here for 2 years, can that computer be transformed in a English version laptop? Another chance is to buy the Australian version can I buy it and make it ship to Korea? WHat are the differences between the releases? Asia/Pasific, Australia (English)/ US (English). Do I see any diference in the BIOS or in operation?

    I really appreciate your help.
