I want to buy VAIO CS 24. I have the following doubts. Anybody having this laptop (or atleast any other VAIO model) please respond.

    1. Vaio comes with MS Office free trial version. After the trial period is over, can I uninstall MS Office and install it freshly(i have downloaded version from internet) . I meant to say if I do not purchase MS Office can I install the pirated one or I have to buy original MS Office.

    2. In the BIOS is there any option to disable Native SATA configuration? Actually I need this option to install XP. (or tell me the other ways to install XP)

    Thanks in advance.

You don't need to disable SATA to install XP (I wouldn't install it with the slower connector [forgotten what it was even called]). When you start the XP install, there's a part in the beginning of the installation where it asks you for some third party drivers (can't remember the exact line either) and prompts you to press F6 if you want to install them. These are the SATA drivers. There'll be an additional install part where you can install these from a floppy (and I'd wager a USB stick would work). You also have the option of doing a slipstreamed XP install disc where the SATA drivers are already pre-installed.

I don't know if you need extra drivers, but if so, a USB-stick will not work because Windows setup only recognizes floppy drives.

If I were you I'd be careful what you're asking here. People here aren't going to help you with questions about piracy.

I've just removed the free trial version on an FW (as well as its updates once I saw what happened -- read on) and installed our corporate Enterprise version of Office 2007 and it slowed down my boot-up considerably, despite my SSD. Feels like a regular HDD at boot-up.

I've just done an uninstall of that version and all updates, etc. except for the original PowerPoint viewer, as well, to see if the speed comes back for the boot-up, but it hasn't. Not sure what is going on -- and I do need to reinstall the Enterprise version once I figure it out.

Long black screens, some "flashes" of the screen, seemingly interminable cursor spins, slow connection to the wireless, slow response for the first loading of the browser screen...yuk. Then, once past that, the SSD performs about as in the past.

    Any ideas?

    P.S. Vista Home Premium 32-bit....
