    I have the Vaio Z that first came out in Spring 2010 and was wondering if there was a way to install Firewire on it (for a video camera, since USB 2.0 is too slow for my workflow). I see on the left side there's some sort of mini-slot and was wondering if that is what I would use to install a Firewire chip. I'm not very computer savvy, so if what I'm saying sounds totally ridiculous, sorry. ^_^;;

    If it is possible to install it, would I buy something like this?: Startech Laptop Express Card Firewire 400/800 Adapter | eBay

    And would that card act as if the Firewire came with the laptop - as in, would it go full speed? Or would that chip just be like some sort of adapter where the speed is bottle-necked in the conversion (as in, it wouldn't be worth buying)?

    Thank you so much for your help! And again, sorry if what I'm asking is impossible and I sound like an idiot.

    That should work great, express card is a PCIe 1x speed. So that would be the only limiting factor.

    Do you know how limiting that speed is exactly compared to if the Firewire were installed natively?
