This is a very new Vaio NW135 laptop, still running Vista, and if I ever get my Windows 7 upgrade discs I will attempt a clean install. So I've got no data to lose and I am getting very bored waiting for the Windows 7 upgrade discs. Sony, you should be ashamed.
Anyway, I downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 and created a Live CD, and then I booted from the CD. It recognized my WiFi card immediately and I was connected. It is surprisingly fast, even running from the CD. So, bored, I created a 18G partition and installed Ubuntu 9.04.
I have to say I like it. It starts up in about 35 seconds, and is connected to the Internet in 45 seconds, browser window open, Website up. It is also pretty easy to use, and much nicer than the SplashTop app that comes with the NW's Web button.
Even after Windows 7 arrives -- if ever, I am having doubts -- I can see using Ubuntu a lot for Web browsing and many day-to-day tasks. I looks like something worth learning about, and I plan to.
Installed Linux on Sony Vaio NW
