    Hi Guys,

Just received my new CTO Z-690 today with vista home premium (64 bit), and to save a little on cost, bought an OEM Vista Ult 64bit separately.

Now I'd like to install vista ultimate instead and i just want to make sure i have the steps right.

    1. backup/create recovery disks just in case something messes up.
    2. install vista ultimate, wiping out everything
    3. install drivers from sony's website

    lastly, 2 questions
    1) since my current drivers are for vista home premium, i will have to download new ones regardless right?
    2) is there anything else that i should be doing?

thanks so much! there was another person with a similar situation to mine but the recommendation was to just do a clean install, so I'm assuming this is what i'm doing.

I would highly recommend finding your drivers online before installing vista ultimate, and putting them on a usb flash drive, but otherwise that looks right to me.

I have a question too. Is there a specific order as to which drivers you must install first for all of the functions to work (ie the fn, s1, s2, eject keys)?

Have a look in the Sony forum; there is a post in there fairly recently which discusses doing a fresh install of vista; I think the post originator documented the order they installed things in.

Drivers can be installed no matter what order should be until done.
For Sony Utilities, you need run Sony Shared Library first, then Sony Notebook Controll Utilities. Finally, you can install the rest in the any order you want.

Just finished this exact install. Put all drivers from sony support website (BTW, choose PREMIUM 64-bit from the menu, the Ultimate option is missing some drivers for some reason) on a USB HD or flash drive.

Install Vista. Then just start double clicking on everything you downloaded. As for the Sony utilities, I didn't follow any particular order, but maybe I just got lucky as far as my selections?
