I just ordered a new SR as listed in my sig and have install discs for Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and 64-bit and was curious if you select only an upgrade will that be a problem as compared to doing a clean install?

I don't know if that would cause any problems since usually the only times I install Vista are doing a clean install where I wipe the HDD. Does an upgrade change anything beyond making it Ultimate compared to Home Premium? Any help would be awesome as if I can do that I will definitely upgrade it to Ultimate.

I would recommend making recovery discs first, and then do a clean install of vista, and then install all the drivers back on using the recovery discs

Is there any negative aspects of doing that? By that I mean, some things not working properly or anything like that.

dammit, i just saw that my university sells the ultimate 32-bit for 20 bucks.. i actually paid $100 to get the business when ordering my SR... well.. at least i got a fresh start, lol...

but can i just upgrade the vista with the ultimate disc? or will it require to delete my HD and reinstall drivers and etc?

That is the question I was trying to ask, I blanked out as I went to make the post and just tried to type and hope someone got the jist. If I could do the upgrade without having to reinstall everything else.

my university gave me vista ultimate and office 2007 pro for free :p

well its recommended to do a clean install.. upgrade often messes up computers... at least thats what i heard and what happened to me before..

and btw, if the vista ultimate disc you have is not SP1, you won't be able to upgrade

It's the brand new retail copy with SP1 - it includes both the 32-bit and 64-bit copy which I thought was cool. My father used to work for MS so he gets all the software for next to nothing.

University of Miami gave us Office 2007 Enterprise Edition and they have some copy of Vista, but I'm not sure which one since I wasn't looking at that part closely.

I could create the recovery discs and try to Upgrade and if problems arise just pop in the recovery discs and say "screw it"

I didn't know they all came with both. Well then again I did only get that one copy.

I really wish I had an external hard drive with me right now. I left it at home in Boston so won't be able to get it until Thanksgiving unless I can get it shipped to me.
