I picked up a 120GB SSD and was going to use it in my desktop. I installed Win7 on it first, it was done in about 20 minutes. Then I decided to put Ubuntu on it, took about 5 minutes.
But last night i decided it would be better used in my VPCF1 notebook. The install of Win7 and all the adobe software took about 3 hours and I notice the capacity if only about 100GB, not close to the 120GB. In the device manager there is a driver for ACHI, and the Windows Experience Index rates the Drive at 7.6.
My question is, is this normal? It does seem to be operating normally, but wanted to asked if I should do something special during the install?
My Vaio is the F Series i7 740 QM, 425M graphics, 8GB RAM, USB 3. BFX13 or whatever.
Thanks for any advise or suggestions.

It could be compatibility issue of your SSD with F.
I am using 256GB Samsung SSD without a single problem.
What is your SSD brand? -
Hi,
The SSD is a Corsair Force 3 120GB. -
I installed a samsung 256 GB 470 in my friends F with no problems whatsoever.

Think I've figured out what's strange, the Bluray drive...
I installed Ubuntu on the system from a USB thumb drive in about 5 minutes, but loading the liveCD of Ubuntu also took a long time as does running the Windows recovery from the recovery DVDs I made.
How practical is it to replace the DVD drive? I could do an external USB3 DVD drive from Frys, what about Sony replacement? Is this drive a standard size, could you go to frys and get a generic bluray DVD drive and plug it in to the laptop?
Thanks guys.
