Instead of doing a clean install I downloaded this program (your uninstaller 2006) from download.com. This is a great program it will uninstall everything. It has a 3 step process.

    1) Uninstalls the program

    2) Scans Windows Registry and deletes all releated entrys

    3) Scans installation folder deletes all files.

This is a 21 day trial. When the program starts use the Pro not the Basic. Only down side is that you can only uninstall 2 programs at a time. You need to restart the program to keep uninstalling.

Here a tip on how to delete the crap in the welcome menu. goto http://www.kushari.org/?p=163#comments

It might give a good result, but it is not the same.

It may be easier, but it does not guarantee that all of the bloatware or remnants of it are totally gone. But if you don't have a Vista install DVD, it (or similar software) may be your only choice.

stop trying to make clean installs of vista, only like one or two people ive read about have done it TOTALLY right, and ive read at least a hundred, everybody is looking for some little drivers, etc.

the uninstallers do work! they search the system for anything left, if something IS left after that, is only going to take some KBs of space at most, and that doesnt affect at all.

everybody talks about clean install as if it is easy and convinient for everybody. it might make your computer 3 seconds faster, but nobody NEEDS those 3 seconds, and it sure is a lot more difficuld than just using an uninstaller.

You may be right that a clean install is harder than most people think.

But uninstalling all bloatware is not as good as a clean install, as far as i know.

Every program that was installed modifies the registry. Uninstalling may remove a lot of crap, but it will never bring the registry back to its original content.

For reference I uninstalled as much as possible when I got my SZ6 including disabling a lot of services and startups. It was still slow, used 900MB of ram to boot and 25GB of disk space (not including the 6GB recovery partition.) A clean install runs quite a bit faster, uses 600MB of ram to boot and uses 12GB of drive.
